Producer price indices - June 2007

The highest y-o-y growth of industrial producer prices since April 2005

In June 2007, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural producers, industrial producers and construction work grew by 1.7%, 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively. Prices of market services fell by 0.4%.
In comparison to June 2006, prices of agricultural producers, industrial producers, construction work and market services were higher by 9.1%, 4.6%, 3.6% and 1.5%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 1.7%. Prices of crop products increased by 2.3% due to higher prices of potatoes (+19.7%), vegetables (+7.6%) and fruit (+6.9%). Prices of animal products increased by 1.2%; higher were prices of pigs for slaughter (+5.6%) and poultry (+1.0%).

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.7% in June (+0.6% in May). Prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ rose the most significantly (+4.1%), ‘other non-metallic mineral products’ increased by 1.2% (of these the most ‘bricks, tiles and construction products, in baked clay’ by 10.5%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+0.9%). Prices in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ were higher by 0.4%. Prices went down in ‘wood and products of wood’ (-0.3%) and in ‘textiles and textile products’ (-0.1%).

Construction work and construction material input prices grew by 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively.

Prices of market services in the business sphere fell by 0.4% due to a 0.6% price decrease in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ and a 0.4% decrease in ‘postal services and telecommunications’.


Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 9.1% (+12.1% in May). The prices of crop products grew by 19.4% due to higher prices of cereals (+36.1%) and also fruit (+6.8%). The prices of animal products fell by 1.4%; lower were prices of pigs for slaughter (-7.6%), cattle for slaughter (-2.8%) and milk (-1.0%) Prices of poultry and eggs grew by 8.3% and 6.5%, respectively.

Prices of industrial producers rose by 4.6% in June (+4.1% in May). This is again the highest y-o-y increase since April 2005. Prices rose significantly in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+8.7%), ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ (+7.2%) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+3.4%). In addition, the growth of prices was distinguished in ‘other non-metallic mineral products’ (+6.7%, of these in particular ‘bricks, tiles and construction products, in baked clay’ by 27.8%). Prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ increased by 3.7%, which is a considerable change compared to the last month (+0.5% in May). There were no y-o-y price decreases in any of the branches.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (+5.9%) and ‘energy’ (+6.9%) increased the most y-o-y.

Construction work prices were up by 3.6% (+3.5% in May). Construction material input prices due to an extraordinary demand increased by 7.4% (+6.3% in May). It is the highest y-o-y growth since March 2005.

Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 1.5% in total (+2.0% in May). The prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ and prices of ‘freight transport, cargo handling and storage services’ grew by 2.3% and 2.8%, respectively.


Industrial producer prices in the EU – May 2007 *

On average for the EU member states (EU 27), according to the data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices increased by 0.2% in May month-on-month. Among member states for which data are available, prices increased the most in Lithuania (+2.0%) and in Luxembourg (+1.2%). Prices in Germany went up by 0.3%. Decreases were recorded in Sweden (-0.4%), in the United Kingdom (-0.3%) and in Slovakia (-0.1%). No price changes were recorded in France.

Year-on-year, prices in the EU 27 were higher by 2.1% in May. Prices increased the most in Lithuania (+9.8%), in Luxembourg (+9.0%) and in Hungary (+7.8%). Prices in Germany rose by 1.9% and in Slovakia by 1.3%. Prices decreased in Denmark (-0.7%) and in the United Kingdom (-0.2%).
