Producer price indices - January 2025

Y-o-y growth of industrial producer prices slowed down

Agricultural producer prices grew by 1.5% month-on-month (m-o-m) and were higher by 9.1% year-on-year (y-o-y). Industrial producer prices went up by 0.2% m-o-m and by 0.5% y‑o‑y. Construction work prices grew by 0.2% m-o-m and by 2.4% y‑o‑y. Service producer prices in the business sphere dropped by 0.6% m-o-m and rose by 3.2% y‑o-y.

“In year-on-year comparison, prices of all producers continued to grow. Prices in agriculture accelerated to 9.1% while prices in industry decelerated to 0.5%. Construction work prices were higher by 2.4% year-on-year and service producer prices in the business sphere by 3.2%,” noted Vladimir Klimes, head of Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of CZSO.

Agricultural producer prices increased by 1.5% m-o-m. Rising were prices of potatoes (+6.2%) and poultry (+1.6%). Growth was recorded also in the prices of vegetables and cattle for slaughter (both +2.8%) and oilseeds and cereals (both +2.6%). Prices of pigs for slaughter fell (-1.3%). Y‑o‑y, agricultural producer prices grew by 9.1% (+8.1% in December). In crop production, prices went up by 6.9%. Higher were prices of fruit (+29.8%), oilseeds (+21.7%) and cereals (+6.5%), while prices of potatoes (-18.6%) and vegetables (-4.1%) decreased. In animal production, prices went up by 12.0%. Prices increased for eggs (+24.3%), cattle for slaughter (+17.6%), milk (+17.5%) and poultry (+1.3%). Decrease occurred in prices of pigs for slaughter (‑6.4%).

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.2% m-o-m. Prices rose especially in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices went up in ‘repair and installation services of machinery and equipment’ (+2.1%) and ‘natural water; water treatment and supply services’ (+4.1%). On the increase were also prices in ‘food products’ (+0.7%), especially in ‘dairy products’ (+1.8%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+0.7%), lower were prices in ‘bakery and farinaceous products’ (-0.3%). Prices decreased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-1.7%), ‘coal and lignite’ (-5.8%). Prices of industrial producers rose by 0.5% y-o-y (+2.8% in December). Prices went up in ‘motor vehicles, trailers and semi trailers’ (+2.6%) and ‘repair and installation services of machinery and equipment’ (+4.7%). Prices rose in ‘food products’ (+2.1%), particularly in ‘dairy products’ (+12.3%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+2.3%), lower were prices in ‘other food products’ (-2.6%) and ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-7.1%). Prices went down in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-2.0%), ‘fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment’ (-1.7%) and ‘coal and lignite’ (-4.2%). Decreases were observed also in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘capital goods’ (+2.9%) and ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+2.2%) went up y-o-y, prices of ‘energy’ (-1.9%) went down. Prices of industrial producers excluding energy were higher by 1.5% (like in December +1.5%).

Construction work prices, as estimated, increased by 0.2% and prices of materials and products used in construction were higher by 0.7% m-o-m. According to the estimate, construction work prices rose by 2.4% y‑o‑y (+2.3% in December after updating). Prices of materials and products used in the construction were higher by 0.8% y-o-y (+0.7% in December).

Service producer prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.6% m-o-m. Prices went down for ‘motion picture, video and television programme production services, sound recording and music publishing’ (-3.8%), ‘programming and broadcasting services’ and ‘advertising and market research services’ (both -22.3%). Rising were prices of warehousing and support services for transportation’ (+4.9%) and computer programming, consultancy and related services’ (+2.0%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services rose by 1.2%. Service producer prices in the business sphere grew by 3.2% y-o‑y (+3.8% in December). Prices rose for ‘employment services’ (+9.3%), ‘programming and broadcasting services’ (+8.0%), ‘real estate services’ (+6.0%), warehousing and support services for transportation’ (+5.3%) and ‘advertising and market research services’ (+3.8%). Prices of ‘motion picture, video and television programme production services, sound recording and music publishing’ (-8.6%) and ‘land transport services’ (-0.2%) were lower. Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, increased by 3.2% (as in December).


Industrial producer prices in the EU – December 2024 (preliminary data) 

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased in December by 0.4% in EU27 (in November they rose by 1.7%), m-o-m. The highest increases were recorded in Bulgaria (+5.1%) and Croatia (+2.4%). Prices were higher in Slovakia (+1.5%), Czechia (+0.6%) and Austria (+0.3%) and lower in Germany (-0.1%) and Poland (-0.3%). The largest decreases were observed in Ireland (-1.5%), Romania (-1.3%) and the Netherlands (-0.4%). Industrial producer prices rose in December by 0.1% (in November they went down by 1.0%) in EU27, y‑o-y. The highest increases were recorded in Ireland (+11.1%), Bulgaria (+6.6%) and Denmark (+4.7%). Prices were higher in Czechia (+2.8%) and Germany (+0.8%) and lower in Austria and Poland (-3.4% both). The largest decreases were observed in Slovakia (-17.0%), Luxembourg (‑4.2%) and France (-3.8%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published figures are final data. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carried out on the 9th calendar day of the following month. Then, construction work price indices are made more precise using results of the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 46th calendar day of the following quarter.
