Producer price indices - April 2014
Y-o-y decrease of producer prices, with the exception of construction work prices

In April 2014 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices fell by 0.1%. Prices of market services and construction work prices were both higher by 0.4% and 0.1%, respectively. Prices of industrial producer stayed unchanged. In comparison to April 2013, prices of agricultural producer decreased by 2.8%. Prices of industrial producer and prices of market services were both lower by 0.3% and 0.5%, respectively. Construction works prices were higher by 0.4%.
Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices went down by 0.1%. Prices of fresh vegetables decreased by 13.6%, as well as potatoes (-5.1%) and poultry (-3.1%). Prices of oil plants (+2.1%) and eggs (+1.3%) increased.
Prices of industrial producers remained stable m-o-m in total. Prices went down the most significantly in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.2%), thereof ‘beverages’ (-0.4%) and ‘other food products’ (-0.6%). Prices decreased in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.2%) and ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-0.1%). Prices increased primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+1.3%). Prices grew in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+0.2%).
According to an estimate, construction work prices went up by 0.1% and construction material input prices fell by 0.2%.
Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.4% due to increasing prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (+3.0%). Market services prices excluding advertising services stayed unchanged.
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices went down by 2.8% (-4.2% in March). Prices of crop products fell by 10.2%, thereof cereals (-19.1%) and oil plants (-8.8%). Higher were prices of potatoes (+36.9%), fruit (+7.0%) and fresh vegetables (+5.8%). Prices of animal products went up by 7.8% due to increasing prices of milk (+20.6%). On the decrease were prices of poultry
(-4.8%), cattle for slaughter (-4.1%) and eggs (-2.2%).
Industrial producer prices decreased by 0.3% (-0.8% in March). The lower prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-8.6%) and ‘mining and quarrying’ (-4.1%) had the largest influence on the total price level. Prices increased in ‘transport equipment’ (+3.9%), thereof ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ (+5.2%). Prices rose in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+1.9%), ‘wood, wood products, paper, printing’ (+3.8%) and ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+2.2%). Prices were higher in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.5%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (+11.5%). Prices went down in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-15.2%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-12.3%) and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (-8.6%).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘energy’ (-4.9%) decreased the most, prices of ‘capital goods’ (+2.1%) increased the most, y-o-y.
According to an estimate, construction work prices increased (+0.4%) for the first time in fifty months (in March stayed unchanged after specification) and construction material input prices grew by 1.2% (+1.1% in March).
Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.5% (like in March). On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-16.3%) and ‘advertising and market research services’ (-3.6%). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+8.2%), prices of ‘financial services, except insurance and pension funding’ (+3.7%), prices of ‘freight transport services by road’ (+2.9%) and prices of ‘insurance services’ (+2.8%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.4% (-0.7% in March).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – March 2014*
According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices decreased in March by 0.3% (-0.1% in February) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Denmark and the Netherlands (-0.9% both), Estonia and Cyprus (-0.8% both). Prices were lower in Slovakia (-0.5%), Austria (-0.4%) and Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic (-0.2% all). Prices rose the most in Greece and Malta (+0.7% both).
Industrial producer prices decreased in March by 1.6% (like in February) in EU28, year-on-year. Prices fell the most in Cyprus (-5.6%) and Belgium (-4.8%). Prices were lower in Slovakia (-4.2%), Austria (-1.8%), Poland (-1.1%) and Germany and the Czech Republic (-0.8% both). Prices increased only in Malta (+0.8%) and Latvia (+0.6%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
