Further decrease of prices in agriculture and industry

In October 2014 compared with the previous month, prices of agricultural producers decreased by 3.1% and industrial producer prices went down by 0.4%. Construction work prices and prices of market services were both higher by 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively. In comparison to October 2013, prices of agricultural producers were lower by 3.9%. Industrial producer prices fell by 0.3%. Construction work prices and prices of market services were both higher by 0.8%.
Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices decreased by 3.1%. Prices of fruit (-12.6%), potatoes (-11.2%), pigs for slaughter (-5.3%), cereals (-3.6%), milk (-1.9%), cattle for slaughter (-1.3%) and oil plants (-1.1%) went down. Prices of eggs (+13.8%) and fresh vegetables (+3.6%) increased.
Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.4%. Prices fell particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-4.8%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.9%). From ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’, prices decreased more significantly in ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-1.3%), ‘dairy products’ (-1.7%), higher were only in ‘bakery and farinaceous products’ (+0.2%). Prices grew in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+0.1%) and ‘transport equipment’ and ‘mining and quarrying’ (+0.2% both).
According to an estimate, construction work prices went up by 0.1% and construction material input prices went down by 0.3%.
Market services prices in the business sphere went up by 0.2% due to the price increasing of ‘advertising and market research services’ (+3.1%). Prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ were lower by 0.5%. Market services prices excluding advertising services fell by 0.1%.
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices went down by 3.9% (-2.7% in September). Prices of crop products fell by 6.6%. Lower were prices of potatoes by 38.9%, fruit (-20.3%), fresh vegetables (-8.8%), cereals (-6.6%) and oil plants (-5.3%). Prices of animal products went up by 0.2% due to increasing prices of milk (+5.1%) and eggs (+12.3%). Prices of cattle for slaughter were higher by 1.0%. On the increase were also prices of poultry by 0.7% (first time after eight months of decrease). Prices of pigs for slaughter were lower by 10.4%.
Prices of industrial producers went down by 0.3%, like in September. Prices decreased the most significantly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-8.9%), thereof ‘electricity, transmission and distribution services’ (-11.6%). Prices fell in ‘mining and quarrying’ (-2.1%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-1.4%). From ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’, prices decreased the most in ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-5.9%), ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-5.2%), ‘other food products’ (-3.3%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-1.1%). Prices increased in ‘transport equipment’ (+4.2%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+3.8%) and ‘wood, wood products, paper, printing’ (+3.7%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-5.5%) decreased the most, y-o-y.
According to an estimate, construction work prices increased by 0.8% (+0.7% in September after specification) and construction material input prices grew by 1.3% (+1.5% in September).
Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.8% (like in September). Increasing were prices in ‘financial services, except insurance and pension funding’ (+7.0%), prices of ‘insurance services’ (+3.0%), prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (+1.2%). On the decrease were prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (-3.8%). Market services prices excluding advertising services increased by 1.2% (+1.3% in September).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – September 2014*
According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices increased in September by 0.1% (-0.2% in August) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest increases were observed in Estonia (+1.1%), Denmark, Spain, France and the Netherlands (+0.5% all). Prices decreased the most in the United Kingdom (-0.4%), the Czech Republic (-0.3%), Lithuania, Poland and Portugal (-0.2% all). Prices remained stable in
Germany and rose in Austria (+0.3%).
Industrial producer prices decreased in September by 1.6% (-1.5% in August) in EU28, year-on-year. Prices went down the most in Lithuania (-5.6%), Belgium and Slovakia (-3.9% both). Prices fell in Austria (-1.6%), Poland (-1.4%), Germany (-1.0%) and the Czech Republic (-0.3%). The only increases were recorded in Romania (+0.4%), Latvia (+0.2%) and Greece (+0.1%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
