Year-on-year growth of industrial producer prices slowed down

In April 2012 compared with the previous month agricultural producer prices and market services prices increased by 0.7% and 0.9%, respectively. Industrial producer prices stayed unchanged. Construction work prices fell by 0.1%.
In comparison to April 2011, prices of agricultural producers, construction works and market services were lower by 2.8%, 0.7% and 0.8%, respectively. Industrial producer prices increased by 2.2%.

Month-on-month comparison:

Aricultural producer prices in total increased (+0.7%). Prices of crop products rose by 2.8%. Higher were prices of vegetables (+12.9%), cereals (+3.9%) and oil plants (+1.2%). Prices of animal products decreased (-1.5%) due to lower prices of eggs (-15.5%). On the decrease were also prices of milk (-1.9%) and poultry (-0.7%). Prices of cattle for slaughter (+1.1%) and pigs for slaughter (+2.4%) increased.

Prices of industrial producers remained stable in total. Prices went up primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+0.6%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+0.7%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ (+0.4%).
Prices increased in ‘food products, beverages tobacco’ (+0.1%), the most in ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+1.2%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+0.8%). On the other hand, prices went down in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-2.8%) and ‘dairy products’ (-2.2%).
Prices dropped more significantly in ‘mining and quarrying’ (-2.8%), the most in ‘coal and lignite’ (-4.6%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices fell by 0.1%. Construction material input prices grew by 0.8%.

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.9%, affected by price increase in advertising and market research services (+8.0%). On the increase were also prices of freight transport services and real estate services (+0.2% both). In contrast, financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding (-0.6%) fell. Market services prices in total excluding advertising services grew by 0.1%.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 2.8% (same as in March). Prices of crop products fell by 11.3%. Lower prices were especially registered for prices of potatoes (-58.2%) and vegetables (-30.9%). On the decrease were also prices of cereals (-9.4%), fruit (-5.2%) and oil plants (-2.6%). Animal products prices grew (+9.2%), due to higher price of eggs (+91.9%) and pigs for slaughter (+19.0%). On the increase were also prices of cattle for slaughter (+8.8%) and poultry (+2.9%). For the first time after twenty six months, prices of milk (-0.5%) decreased.

Industrial producer prices gained 2.2% (+3.0% in March). The price level was more significantly influenced by the growth of prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+10.7%) and ‘chemical and chemical products’ (+6.4%).
Prices increased also in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.4%), of these particularly in ‘bakery and farinaceous products’ (+9.3%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+5.3%). Decrease was observed in ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-10.6%).
Prices decreased in ‘mining and quarrying’ (-3.3%), particularly in ‘coal and lignite’ (-7.7%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ increased the most (+3.7%); the decrease was recorded in ‘durable consumer goods’ (-0.3%), y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.7% (-0.8% in March). Construction material input prices were up by 1.8% (+0.9% in March).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.8% (-0.5% in March). Decreasing were prices in advertising and market research services (-5.1%), architectural and engineering services (-2.6%), real estate services (-0.8%) and telecommunication services (-0.5%). On the increase were prices of freight transport services (+0.9%) and insurance services (+1.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.2% in total (-0.4% in March).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – March 2012*

According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 0.6% in March (+0.9% in February), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Greece and the United Kingdom (+1.2% both), Lithuania (+1.1%) and Cyprus (+1.0%). Prices rose in Slovakia and Germany (+ 0.6% both), the Czech Republic (+0.3%) and Poland (+0.2%). The only decreases were recorded in Sweden (-0.5%), Hungary and Austria (-0.1% both).
EU27 producer prices rose by 3.8% in March (+4.4% in February), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Latvia (+10.0%), Cyprus (+8.8%) and Hungary (+7.4%). Prices rose in Poland and Slovakia (-4.3% both), Germany (+3.4%), the Czech Republic (+3.0%) and Austria (+1.6%). The only decrease was recorded in Sweden (-0.5%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
