Growth of agricultural producer prices continued

In October 2010, agricultural producer prices and market services prices increased by 2.3% and 0.3%, respectively. Industrial producer prices and construction work prices stayed unchanged.
In comparison to October 2009, agricultural producer prices and industrial producer prices were higher by 21.1% and 2.6%, respectively. Construction work prices and market services prices decreased by 0.3% and 1.2%, respectively.

Monthly changes

Agricultural producer prices increased by 2.3% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 4.0%, due to higher prices of cereals (+6.4%), fruit (+9.2%) and oil plants (+11.8%). On the decrease were prices of vegetables (-4.0%) and potatoes (-5.3 %). Prices of animal products increased by 0.5%. Increases were recorded for prices of milk and eggs by 1.9% and 5.6%, respectively. Prices of cattle for slaughter (-1.0%) and pigs for slaughter (-2.8%) fell.

According to an estimate, construction work prices and construction material input prices stayed unchanged.

Industrial producer prices remained stable (+0.3% in September). Prices rose more significantly in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.6%), primarily ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (+6.1%). Prices increased moderately in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ and ‘transport equipment’ (-0.7% both).

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.3%, affected by price increase in advertising and market research services (+4.5%). On the decrease were prices in insurance (-3.1%) and in employment services (-0.5%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased in total by 0.4%.

Annual changes

Agricultural producer prices were up by 21.1% (+16.4% in September). Prices of crop products grew by 34.7%. Considerable increases were registered for prices of cereals (+43.1%), oil plants (+42.9%), potatoes (+59.3%), fruit (+48.1%) and vegetables (+36.2%). Animal products prices grew (+8.3%), due to higher price of milk (+26.9%). After twenty-four months prices of poultry (+0.4%) increased. On the decrease were prices of pigs for slaughter (-7.0%) and eggs (-7.7%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year 2009.

Industrial producer prices rose by 2.6% (+2.4% in September). Prices went up the most in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+24.4%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+11.4%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+9.6%). Prices increased in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.3%). Prices decreased the most in ‘transport equipment’ (-4.3%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ increased the most (+5.6%); the largest decrease was recorded for ‘capital goods’ (-1.7%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.3% (the same as in September). Construction material input prices were up by 2.2% (the same as in September).

Market services prices in the business sphere were down by 1.2% (-0.8% in September). Decreasing were prices in advertising and market research services (-7.0%), insurance (-3.8%) and architectural and engineering services (-1.1%). Higher prices were recorded in employment services (+4.3%) and postal and courier services (+3.1%). Prices in freight transport grew by 1.8%. Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.5%.

Industrial producer prices in the EU – September 2010*

According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 0.2% in September (+0.1% in August), month-on-month. Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Romania (+1.2%), Finland (+1.1%), Belgium and Bulgaria (+0.8% both). Prices in Germany rose by 0.2%. The only decreases were observed in Hungary (-0.8%), Slovakia (-0.4%) and the United Kingdom (-0.1%).

EU27 producer prices rose by 4.5% in September (+4.0% in August), year-on-year. The largest increases in the total index were observed in Malta (+14.4%), Bulgaria and Hungary (+9.6% both). Prices in Germany rose by 3.8%. The only decrease was observed in Slovakia (-0.8%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data are finalised. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
