Classifications

The statistical classification is a hierarchical arrangement of certain economic, social or demographic phenomena or processes. It follows the relationships of phenomena and processes from general to specific ones. The phenomena and processes are arranged and broken down in classifications usually to sections, divisions, groups and classes. A higher level of the structure always breaks down into more detailed lower levels; individual levels of classifications are hierarchically and logically arranged.

Statistical classifications are part of the statistical information system; they are regularly updated in accordance with international standards.

All valid statistical classifications issued in the Collection of Laws of the Czech Republic in the form of a communication are binding for both bodies performing the State Statistical Service as well as for reporting units, which provide data for statistical surveys carried out pursuant to the Act on the State Statistical Service.
