The growth in prices of industrial producers continued

In January 2011, compared with the previous month, agricultural and industrial producer prices grew by 3.6% and 1.4%, respectively. Construction work prices increased by 0.1%. Market services prices decreased by 1.0%.
In comparison to January 2010, agricultural and industrial producer prices were higher by 23.0% and 4.6%, respectively. Prices of market services were 0.1% up. Construction work prices decreased by 0.4%.

Monthly changes
Agricultural producer prices increased by 3.6% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 6.0%. Higher were prices of cereals (+4.1%), plant oils (+13.5%), potatoes (+3.2%), fruit (+4.7%) and vegetables (+21.6%). Prices of animal products increased by 0.5%, higher were prices of milk (+1.8%) and cattle for slaughter (+1.1%). In contrast, prices of pigs for slaughter, poultry and eggs decreased by 0.1%, 0.4% and 4.8%, respectively.
Prices of industrial producers increased by 1.4%. This is the most since January 2008. M-o-m growth was influenced the most by the price increase in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+4.0%), primarily in ‘electricity, transmission and distribution services’ by 5.0%. Rising prices in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+1.8%) and in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+3.3%) had the marked influence too. Prices went up in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+6.1%). Prices went down significantly in ‘transport equipment’ (-1.8%).
According to an estimate, construction work and construction material input prices increased by 0.1% and 0.3%, respectively.
Market services prices in the business sphere fell by 1.0%, affected by price decrease in advertising and market research services (-9.7%) and computer programming, consultancy and related services (-0.5%). Market services prices in total excluding advertising services stayed unchanged.
Annual changes
Agricultural producer prices were 23.0% up (+23.6% in December). Prices of crop products grew by 38.2%. Considerable increases were registered for prices of cereals (+58.3%), plant oils (+53.6%), potatoes (+65.7%), fruit (+32.5%) and vegetables (+60.9%). Prices of animal products grew (+7.5%), due to higher price of milk (+20.7%). On the increase were prices of poultry (+2.8%) and cattle for slaughter (+2.7%). On the decrease were prices of pigs for slaughter (-2.6%) and eggs (-22.3%). The considerable y-o-y growth was influenced particularly by lower comparative basis from the year of 2010.
Industrial producer prices rose by 4.6%. This is the highest y-o-y increase for the last 28 months. The total price level was influenced particularly by the rising prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+26.5%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+10.1%) and in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.9%). Prices rose in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+6.0%) and in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.3%). The more considerable decrease was recorded for ‘transport equipment¨(-3.8%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+10.1%); the largest decrease was recorded for ‘capital goods’ (-1.4%).
According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.4% (the same as in December). Construction material input prices were 2.6% up (+2.7% in December).
Market services prices in the business sphere were up by 0.1% (-1.0% in December). Increasing were prices in advertising and market research services (+2.4%), freight transport (+1.8%), financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+2.5%) and postal and courier services (+3.4%). Lower prices were recorded in insurance services (-3.8%), computer programming, consultancy and related services (-2.2%), telecommunications services (-1.0%) and architectural and engineering services and technical consultancy services (-0.6%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased in total by 0.2% (the same as in December).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – December 2010*
According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 1.1% in December (+0.5% in November), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Denmark (+2.9%), Sweden (+2.5%), Finland and the United Kingdom (+2.4% both). Prices rose in the Czech Republic (+1.0%), Poland (+0.9%), Germany (+0.7%) and in Slovakia (+0.4%). In Austria, data are not available for December (+0.3 in November). The only decrease was observed in Ireland (-0.3%), while prices remained stable in Estonia and Cyprus.
EU27 producer prices rose by 5.9% in December (+4.8% in November), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Malta (+15.6%), Bulgaria (+12.0%) and Hungary (+10.9%). Prices rose in Poland (+7.2%), Germany (+5.1%) and in the Czech Republic (+3.6%). The only decrease was recorded in Slovakia (-0.8%). In Austria, data are not available for December (+4.7% in November).
