Producer price indices - June 2013

M-o-m increase of prices of petroleum products

In June 2013 compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices went up by 0.7%, industrial producer prices were higher by 0.1%, construction work prices fell by 0.1% and also market services prices were lower by 1.0%.
In comparison to June 2012, prices of agricultural and industrial producer prices increased by 7.3% and 0.7%, respectively. Prices of construction works and market services prices were both lower by 1.3% and 2.5%, respectively.


Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 0.7%. Prices of potatoes increased by 45.8% as well as fresh vegetables (+16.8%), fruit (+9.9%), poultry (+1.8%) and pigs for slaughter (+1.0%). Prices of eggs (-13.2%), oil plants (-3.4%) and cereals (-1.7%) went down.

Prices of industrial producers went up by 0.1%. The growth rate was influenced by the higher prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+2.2%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+0.1%). Prices decreased in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-0.8%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ and ‘transport equipment’ (-0.5% both).

According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 0.1%, construction material input prices grew by 0.1%.

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 1.0%. On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-6.2%) and prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (-5.2%). Market services prices in total excluding advertising services fell by 0.7%.


Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 7.3% (+8.0% in May). Prices of crop products grew by 10.4%, primarily prices of potatoes (+61.2%), fresh vegetables (+18.6%), cereals (+14.9%) and oil plants (+1.7%). Prices of fruit were lower by 7.0%. Animal products prices increased by 3.7%. Price of poultry grew (+11.2%), prices of milk increased as well (+8.1%). On the increase were also prices of cattle for slaughter (+0.6%). Prices of eggs went down by 22.4%.

Industrial producer prices gained 0.7% (+0.3% in May). The significant influence on the total price level had the higher prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+3.6%) and ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (+3.8%). Prices increased primarily in ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+18.7%), ‘dairy products’ (+8.2%), ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (+12.2%) and ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (+13.3%). Prices went down in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-2.8%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non-metallic mineral products’ and ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-1.4% both).
Among the main industrial groupings prices of ‘energy’ (+2.1%) increased the most.

According to an estimate, construction work prices went down by 1.3% (-1.2% in May). Construction material input prices went down by 0.5% (-0.6% in May).

Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 2.5% (-1.8% in previous month). On the decrease were prices of ‘telecommunication services’ (-21.5%), ‘storage’ (-19.8%), ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-2.6%) and prices ‘legal and accounting services’ (-1.3%). Increasing were prices in ‘advertising and market research services’ (+3.3%) and prices of ‘insurance’ (+2.4%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 2.7% (-2.1% in May).


Industrial producer prices in the EU – May 2013*

According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 decreased by 0.3% in May (-0.8% in April), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Estonia (-3.6%), France (-1.2%), Denmark and Cyprus (-0.8% both). Prices dropped in Slovakia (-0.6%), Austria (-0.5%), the Czech Republic and Germany (-0.3% both). Increases were recorded only in Spain (+1.3%), Greece, Lithuania and Poland (+0.1% all).

EU27 producer prices remained stable in May (-0.3% in April), year-on-year. The highest increases were observed in Estonia (+6.7%), Romania (+4.9%) and Latvia (+2.1%). Prises went up in the Czech Republic (+0.3%) and Germany (+0.2%). The largest decreases were recorded in Poland (-2.1%), Cyprus (-2.0%), Hungary and Sweden (-1.5% both), the Netherlands and Austria (-1.2% both) and Slovakia (-0.4%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
