Producer price indices - March 2015

Month-on-month growth of industrial producer prices after six months

In March 2015 compared with the previous month, industrial producer prices increased by 0.5%. Construction work prices went up by 0.2% and prices of market services were also higher by 0.6%. Agricultural producer prices were lower by 0.4%. In comparison to March 2014, agricultural producer prices were lower by 9.9% and industrial producer prices fell by 2.9%. Construction work prices grew by 0.9% and prices of market services stayed unchanged.

 
Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices fell by 0.4%. Prices of milk (-1.5%), poultry (-4.3%) and fruit
(-5.5%) decreased. Prices of fresh vegetables (+4.9%), potatoes (+4.1%) and eggs (+1.3%) went up.

Prices of industrial producers rose by 0.5% after six months of the decreasing. Prices increased the most rapidly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+9.6%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+2.9%). Prices went down in ‘transport equipment’ (-0.8%) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (-0.5%). Prices remained stable in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’.

According to an estimate, construction work prices and construction material input prices were both higher by 0.2%.

Market services prices in the business sphere increased by 0.6%. On the increase were prices of ‘advertising and market research services’ (+8.9%), ‘warehousing and support services for transportation’ (+0.8%) and ‘publishing services’ (+0.6%). On the decrease were prices of ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-0.6%). Market services prices excluding advertising services went down by 0.1%.

Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices fell by 9.9% (-8.8% in February). Prices of crop products went down by 11.0%. Lower were prices of potatoes (-36.0%), fresh vegetables (-22.3%), fruit
(-18.4%), oil plants (-9.8%) and cereals (-7.8%). Prices of animal products went down by 9.0% due to decreasing prices of milk (-13.4%), pigs for slaughter (-11.7%) and poultry (-3.8%).
On the increase were prices of cattle for slaughter (+2.3%) and eggs (+4.7%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 2.9% (-3.6% in February). Prices decreased in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ by 23.0% (-31.2% in February) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-14.7%). Prices were lower in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-3.0%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (-9.0%), ‘other food products’ (-6.0%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-2.7%). Prices rose in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+3.4%), ‘basic pharmaceutical products’ (+1.9%) and ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+1.7%).

Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-6.4%) decreased the most, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices increased by 0.9% (+0.8 in February) and construction material input prices fell by 0.2% (-0.1% in February).

Prices of market services in the business sphere stayed unchanged (+0.1% in February). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+6.9%), financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+4.3%), ‘publishing services’ (+2.9%). On the decrease were prices of ‘information services’ (-1.5%), ‘architectural and engineering services’ (-1.4%) and ‘advertising and market research services’ (-1.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services stayed unchanged (+0.2% in February).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – February 2015*

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices rose in February by 0.6% (-1.3% in January) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were observed in Greece (+3.5%), the Netherlands (+2.3%) and Denmark (+1.7%). Prices rose in Austria (+0.5%), Poland (+0.3%) and Germany (+0.2%) and fell in the Czech Republic (-0.1%). Prices went down the most in Slovakia (-2.2%), Estonia (‑1.8%) and Ireland (-0.8%).

Industrial producer prices decreased in February by 3.4% (-4.1% in January) in EU28, year-on-year. The largest decreases were observed in Lithuania (-9.2%), the Netherlands (-8.3%) and the United Kingdom (-8.2%). Prices decreased in Slovakia (-4.5%), the Czech Republic (-3.6%), Poland (-3.1%), Germany (-1.9%) and Austria (-1.7%). Prices rose only in Luxembourg (+0.7%) and remained stable in Latvia.

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
