Producer price indices - March 2012
Only y-o-y prices of industrial producers increased

In March 2012 compared with the previous month agricultural and industrial producer prices increased by 3.1% and 0.3%, respectively. Market services prices grew by 0.8%. Construction work prices fell by 0.2%.
In comparison to March 2011, prices of agricultural producers, construction works and market services were lower by 2.8%, 0.6% and 0.5%, respectively. Industrial producer prices increased by 3.0%.
Month-on-month comparison:
Aricultural producer prices in total increased (+3.1%). Prices of crop products rose by 2.7%. Higher were prices of vegetables (+17.5%), oil plants (+3.3%), potatoes (+3.0%) and cereals (+2.6%). Prices of animal products increased (+3.6%) due to higher prices of eggs (+58.5%). On the increase were also prices of cattle for slaughter (+1.4%), pigs for slaughter (+1.1%) and poultry (+0.4%). Prices of milk (-0.2%) decreased.
Prices of industrial producers went up by 0.3%. Prices rose in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+3.4%), ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+1.4%) and ‘rubber and plastic products, other non metallic mineral products’ (+0.2%). Prices went down more significantly in ‘transport equipment’ (-0.5%), primarily in ‘parts and accessories for motor vehicles’ (-0.7%). Prices remained stable in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ in total, the largest increase was recorded in ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (+2.8%) and the largest decrease in ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-0.3%).
According to an estimate, construction work prices fell by 0.2%. Construction material input prices grew by 0.1%.
Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 0.8%, affected by price increase in advertising and market research services (+7.6%). On the increase were also prices of financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding and insurance services (+0.7%). In contrast, freight transport services and real estate services fell (-0.2% both). Market services prices in total excluding advertising services stayed unchanged.
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices were lower by 2.8% (-3.6% in February). Prices of crop products fell by 13.3%. Lower prices were especially registered for prices of potatoes (-57.0%) and vegetables (-42.4%). On the decrease were also prices of cereals (-12.0%) and oil plants (-5.6%). Animal products prices grew (+12.4%), due to higher price of eggs (+132.9%) and pigs for slaughter (+20.2%). On the increase were also prices of cattle for slaughter (+7.0%), poultry (+4.9%) and milk (+2.1%).
Industrial producer prices gained 3.0% (+3.6% in February). Prices grew in ‘coke, refined petroleum products by 15.1% (+19.6% in February), ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ by 4.9% (+5.5% in February) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 1.6% (+3.3% in February). Prices dropped in ‘electrical equipment’ by 1.2% (-1.1% in February).
From ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’, prices increased the most significantly in ‘bakery and farinaceous products’ (+13.1%), ‘other food products’ (+10.9%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+5.1%). Prices went down in ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ (-8.6%), ‘vegetable and animal oils and fats’ (-6.1%) and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (-0.8%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ increased the most (+5.6%); the decrease was recorded in ‘durable consumer goods’ (-0.3%), y-o-y.
According to an estimate, construction work prices were down by 0.6% (-0.5% in February). Construction material input prices were up by 0.9% (+1.3% in February).
Market services prices in the business sphere decreased by 0.5% (-0.4% in February). Decreasing were prices in architectural and engineering services (-3.0%), advertising and market research services (-2.1%), real estate services (-1.3%) and telecommunication services (-0.5%). On the increase were prices of freight transport services (+0.8%) and insurance services (+1.1%). Market services prices excluding advertising services decreased by 0.4% in total (same as in February).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – February 2012*
According to the Eurostat News Releases industrial producer prices in the EU27 increased by 0.8% in February (+0.6% in January), month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Denmark (+3.6%), Belgium (+1.9%) and Finland (+1.7%). Prices rose in Slovakia (+1.2%), Austria (+1.1%), Germany (+0.4%) and the Czech Republic (+0.1%) and remained stable in Poland. Decreases were recorded in Cyprus (-0.3%) and Slovenia (-0.1%).
EU27 producer prices rose by 4.3% in February (like in January), year-on-year. The largest increases were observed in Latvia (+10.2%), Cyprus (+8.6%) and Lithuania (+8.3%). Prices rose in Poland (+5.6%), Slovakia (+4.0%), the Czech Republic (+3.6%), Germany (+3.2%) and Austria (+2.8%). There is none y-o-y decrease in the EU27 countries.

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
