Industrial producer prices fell m-o-m and y-o-y

Agricultural producer prices went down by 1.5% month-on-month (m-o-m) and were higher by 15.7% year-on-year (y-o-y). Industrial producer prices fell by 0.6% m-o-m and by 0.8% y‑o‑y. Construction work prices grew by 0.4% m-o-m and by 3.9% y‑o‑y. Service producer prices in the business sphere rose by 0.2% m-o-m and by 4.4% y‑o-y.

“Prices of industrial producers have been falling for four months in a row, both month-on-month and year-on-year. They fell by 0.6% month-on-month and by 0.8 % year-on-year. On the other hand, prices of other producers continued in their year-on-year growth. Prices in agriculture grew again by 15.7%. Construction work prices were higher by 3.9% year-on-year and service producer prices in the business sphere by 4.4%,” noted Vladimir Klimes, head of Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of CZSO.

Agricultural producer prices decreased by 1.5% m-o-m. Falling were prices of cereals (-0.9%) and eggs (-6.1%). The increase was recorded for prices of pigs for slaughter (+5.6%), potatoes (+3.5%), cattle for slaughter (+1.5%), oilseeds (+1.0%) and milk (+0.8%). Y‑o‑y, agricultural producer prices grew by 15.7% (same as in April). In crop production, prices went up by 16.1%. Higher were prices of fruit (+36.3%), oilseeds (+24.6%), cereals (+14.7%) and fresh vegetables (+8.0%), while prices of potatoes fell (-6.5%). In animal production, prices went up by 15.9%. Prices increased for eggs (+43.6%), cattle for slaughter (+27.1%), milk (+19.5%) and poultry (+7.5%). Decrease occurred in prices of pigs for slaughter (‑9.0%).

Prices of industrial producers fell by 0.6% m-o-m. Prices decreased particularly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-2.7%) and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-1.3%). Lower were prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices rose in ‘basic metals’ (+1.4%) and ‘repair and installation services of machinery and equipment’ (+0.6%). Prices were higher in ‘food products’ (+0.4%), particularly in ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (+1.4%) and ‘prepared animal feeds’ (+0.9%). On the decrease were prices in ‘other food products’ (-0.3%) and ‘processed and preserved fruit and vegetables’ (-1.2%). Prices of industrial producers fell by 0.8% y-o-y (-1.3% in April). Prices were lower in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices decreased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (-3.5%), ‘chemical and chemical products’ (-6.2%) and ‘coal and lignite’ (-10.2%). Prices rose in ‘food products’ (+3.2%), especially in ‘dairy products’ (+12.3%), prices went down in ‘other food products’ (-3.7%). Prices grew in ‘repair and installation services of machinery and equipment’ (+4.1%) and ‘wood and of products of wood and cork’ (+5.1%). Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-5.9%) went down y-o-y, prices of ‘durable consumer goods’ and ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (+2.2% both) and ‘capital goods’ (+2.1%) went up. Prices of industrial producers excluding energy were higher by 1.4% (+0.6% in April).

Construction work prices, as estimated, increased by 0.4% and prices of materials and products used in construction were higher by 0.1% m-o-m. According to the estimate, construction work prices rose by 3.9% y‑o‑y (+3.6% in April). Prices of materials and products used in the construction were higher by 1.0% y-o-y (+0.7% in April).

Service producer prices in the business sphere increased by 0.2% m-o-m. Prices went up for 'motion picture, video and television programme production services, sound recording and music publishing' (+7.7%), ‘programming and broadcasting services’ (+4.0%), ‘advertising and market research services’ (+1.8%) and 'architectural and engineering services; technical testing and analysis services' (+1.1%). Falling were prices of ‘employment services’ (-1.3%) and 'information services' (-1.8%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services did not change. Service producer prices in the business sphere grew by 4.4% y-o‑y (+4.0% in April). Prices rose for ‘programming and broadcasting services’ (+19.8%), ‘advertising and market research services’ (+15.2%), security and investigation services’ (+12.5%), 'motion picture, video and television programme production services, sound recording and music publishing' (+10.9%), ‘employment services’ (+10.8%) and 'warehousing and support services for transportation' (+6.6%). Service producer prices in the business sphere, excluding advertising services, increased by 3.4% (+3.2% in April).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2025 (preliminary data) 

According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices decreased in April by 2.1% in EU27 (in March they fell by 1.6%), m-o-m. The largest decreases were recorded in Bulgaria (‑4.9%), France (-4.3%) and Ireland (-4.0%). Prices went down in Austria and Slovakia (-1.8% both), Czechia (-0.8%), Germany (-0.7%) and Poland (-0.6%). Increases were observed in Cyprus (+0.3%), Malta and Slovenia (+0.2% both) as well as in Latvia and Luxembourg (+0.1% both).
Industrial producer prices went up in April by 0.6% (in March they increased by 2.1%) in EU27, y-o-y. The highest increases were recorded in Bulgaria (+17.0%), Ireland (+5.4%) and Greece (+5.3%). Prices were higher in Slovakia (+1.4%) and lower in Czechia (-1.3%), Poland (-1.2%), Germany (-1.0%) and Austria (-0.8%). The largest decreases were observed in Lithuania (-3.4%) and Portugal (-2.4%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published figures are final data. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carried out on the 9th calendar day of the following month. Then, construction work price indices are updated using results of the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 46th calendar day of the following quarter.
