Prices of agricultural producers are still falling

In May 2015 compared with the previous month, industrial producer prices increased by 0.4%. Construction work prices and prices of market services were both higher by 0.1%. Agricultural producer prices were lower by 2.2%. In comparison to May 2014, agricultural producer prices went down by 12.1% and industrial producer prices fell by 2.1%. Construction work prices and prices of market services were both higher by 1.1% and 0.2%, respectively.
 

Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices fell by 2.2%. Prices of cereals (-1.5%), milk (-1.7%), poultry (-4.4%) and eggs (-5.5%) decreased.

Prices of industrial producers rose by 0.4%. Prices went up particularly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ and ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (+4.2%). Prices were lower in ‘computer, electronic and optical products’ (-0.5%), ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-0.3%) and ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (-0.2%).

According to an estimate, construction work prices rose by 0.1% and construction material input prices grew by 0.3%.

Market services prices in the business sphere increased by 0.1%. Prices of ‘architectural and engineering services’ and ‘publishing services’ were both higher by 0.7%. Market services prices excluding advertising services rose by 0.1%.
 

Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices fell by 12.1% (-10.0% in April). Prices of crop products went down by 13.6%. Lower were prices of potatoes (-34.0%), oil plants (-13.3%), cereals (-12.5%) and fruit (-7.4%). Higher were prices of fresh vegetables by 4.7%. Prices of animal products went down by 10.5% due to decreasing prices of milk (-15.8%) and pigs for slaughter (-12.7%). On the decrease were also prices of eggs (-3.6%) and poultry (-2.8%). On the increase were prices of cattle for slaughter (+3.0%).

Prices of industrial producers went down by 2.1% (-2.6% in April). Prices primarily decreased in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’. Prices went down in ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (-6.4%). Prices fell in ‘food products, beverages, tobacco’ (-3.0%), thereof ‘dairy products’ (-10.0%), ‘other food products’ (-5.2%) and ‘preserved meat and meat products’ (-2.6%). Prices rose in ‘water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation services’ (+3.4%) and ‘furniture, other manufactured products’ (+1.6%).

Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (-5.2%) decreased the most, y-o-y.

According to an estimate, construction work prices increased by 1.1% (+1.0% in April) and construction material input prices grew by 0.4% (-0.2% in April).

Prices of market services in the business sphere went up by 0.2% (+0.1% in April). Increasing were prices in ‘postal and courier services’ (+6.9%), financial services, except insurance and pension funding (+4.3%) and ‘publishing services’ (+3.6%). On the decrease were prices of ‘information services’ (-1.5%) and ‘land transport services and transport services via pipelines’ (-1.6%). Market services prices excluding advertising services went up by 0.1%
(in April stayed unchanged).

 

Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2015*
According to the Eurostat News Releases, industrial producer prices remained stable in April (+0.3% in March) in EU28, month-on-month. Among the Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were observed in Malta (-4.4%), Romania (-0.7%) and Croatia (-0.6%). Prices decreased in Slovakia (-0.5%), Poland and Austria (-0.1% both) and remained stable in Germany. The highest increases were recorded in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain and the United Kingdom (+0.4% all).

Industrial producer prices decreased in April by 2.8% (-2.9% in March) in EU28, year-on-year.

The largest decreases were observed in Lithuania (-8.8%), the United Kingdom (-7.1%) and the Netherlands (-5.8%). Prices went down in Slovakia (-3.5%), the Czech Republic (-2.6%), Poland (-2.5%), Austria (-1.6%) and Germany (-1.5%). Prices were higher only in Luxembourg (+0.8%) and Sweden (+0.2%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the published data are finalised. Estimates of the construction work price indices are carrying out on the 9th calendar day of the following day. Construction work price indices are updated using the finished quarterly survey and the finalised data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
