Producer prices increased again

In September 2007, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural and industrial producers, construction work and market services grew by 4.3%, 0.1%, 0.5% and 0.9%, respectively.
In comparison to September 2006, prices of agricultural and industrial producers, construction work and market services were higher by 18.1%, 4.0%, 3.8% and 1.6%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices grew by 4.3% in total. Prices of crop products grew by 5.9%, higher were prices of fruit (+25.1%), cereals (+10.5%) and oil seeds (+9.0%). Prices of potatoes and vegetables fell by 24.6% and 3.3%, respectively. Prices of animal products increased by 2.6% due to higher prices of eggs (+14.7%), poultry (+3.8%), milk (+2.8%) and pigs for slaughter (+1.2%).
Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.1% in September 2007 (-0.1% in August). The most significant increase of prices was recorded in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ by 2.9% (-3.8% in August). The prices grew in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ by 0.7% (+1.2% in August). Prices went down in ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ by 1.0% and in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 0.4%.
Construction work prices grew by 0.5%, construction material input prices fell by 0.6%.
Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.9% due to 1.6% price increase in ‘real estate, renting and business services’ (higher prices of advertising services by 11.1%).
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices were higher by 18.1% (+15.6% in August). Prices of crop products grew by 32.2%, especially due to higher prices of cereals (+62.0%). Further, prices of oilseeds (+28.0%), fruits (+38.3%) and vegetables (+3.6%) increased. On the other hand, prices of potatoes fell by 17.8%. Prices of animal products were higher by 4.5%. Prices of milk, poultry and eggs increased by 6.9%, 18.5% and 24.0%, respectively. Lower were prices of pigs (-4.8%) and cattle for slaughter (-4.5%).
Prices of industrial producers were higher by 4.0% in September 2007 (+3.7% in August). This was particularly influenced by higher prices in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water” (+7.5%). In addition, the price level increased significantly in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 5.7% (+6.9% in August). Prices in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ went up by 4.4% (+4.0% in August). The change of trend was recorded in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’, an increase by 6.8% occurred (-2.1% in August). Prices in ‘transport equipment decreased by 1.3% (-0.8% in August).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (+7.8%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (+4.2%) increased the most y-o-y.
Construction work prices were higher by 3.8% (+3.6% in August), construction material input prices grew by 5.3% (+5.9% in August)
Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 1.6% in total (+1.0% in August). Prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ (higher prices of advertising services by 6.0%) and ‘freight transport and storage services’ grew by 2.5% and 3.3%, respectively.
Industrial producer prices in the EU – June 2007 *
On average for the EU member states (EU27), according to the data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices remained unchanged in August month-on-month (+0.3% July). Among member states for which data are available, prices increased the most in Bulgaria (1.5%), in Luxembourg (+1.4%) and in Ireland (+0.7%). Prices in Germany increased by 0.1%. Prices went down the most in the Netherlands (-0.8%), in Finland and in the United Kingdom (-0.6% both) and in Slovakia (-0.2%).
Year-on-year, prices in the EU27 were higher by 1.5% in August (+1.7% in July). Prices increased the most in Bulgaria (+9.0%), in Luxembourg (+6.9%*) and in Lithuania (+6.7%). Prices went up in Germany by 1.0% and in Slovakia by 0.5%. Prices decreased only in Denmark (-4.7%) and in the United Kingdom (-0.1%).

Except the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
