Prices of agricultural producers up the most

In October 2007, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural and industrial producers, construction work and market services grew by 5.9%, 0.4%, 0.4% and 0.5%, respectively.
In comparison to October 2006, prices of agricultural and industrial producers, construction work and market services were higher by 24.4%, 4.4%, 4.3% and 2.0%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 5.9% in total. Prices of crop products rose by 9.2%; higher were prices of fruit (+16.7%), cereals (+13.0%), oil plants (+8.8%) and vegetables (+4.9%). Prices of potatoes and hops fell by 3.3% and 4.0%, respectively. Prices of animal products increased by 1.8% due to higher prices of eggs (+7.0%), milk (+5.0%) and poultry (+3.8%). For the first time after five months of growth prices of pigs for slaughter fell (-4.9%).

Prices of industrial producers grew by 0.4%. The most significant price increase was observed in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ by 1.8% (+0.7% in September), i.e. the highest growth since August 2000. Prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ went up by 1.4% (+2.9% in September) and in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ by 0.4%. Price decreases by 0.3% occurred in ‘transport equipment’, ‘rubber and plastic products’ and ‘other non-metallic mineral products’.

Prices of construction work and construction material input grew by 0.4% and 0.2%, respectively.

Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.5% due to a 0.6% price increase in ‘real estate, renting and business services’.


Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 24.4% (+18.1% in September). Prices of crop products grew by 42.9%, especially due to higher prices of cereals (+71.7%) and fruit (73.1%). Also prices of oil plants (+36.8%) and vegetables (+13.1%) were up. Prices of potatoes fell by 22.0%. Prices of animal products were higher by 6.3%. Prices of eggs, poultry and milk increased by 23.8%, 22.4% and 11.5%, respectively. Lower were prices of pigs (-7.6%) and cattle for slaughter (-3.2%).

Prices of industrial producers went up by 4.4% in October 2007 (+4.0% in September). This was mainly affected by higher prices in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ by 7.6%, ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ by 6.0% (+4.4% in September), ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ by 14.8% (+6.8% in September) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 5.2%. Prices decreased only in ‘transport equipment’ by 1.4% and ‘rubber and plastic products’ by 0.9%.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (+9.7%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (+4.0%) increased the most y-o-y.

Construction work prices were higher by 4.3% (+4.1% in September); construction material input prices grew by 5.0% (+5.3% in September)

Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 2.0% in total (+1.6% in September). Prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ grew by 2.7% (prices of advertising services up by 7.1%) and prices of ‘freight transport and storage services’ by 3.9%.


Industrial producer prices in the EU – September 2007*

On average for the EU member states (EU27), according to the data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices rose by 0.4% in September (+0.1% in August) month-on-month. Among member states for which data are available, prices increased the most in Denmark (+1.7%), Lithuania (+1.2%), Greece and Slovenia (+1.1% both). Prices in Slovakia went up by 0.5% and in Germany by 0.2%. Decreases were observed only in Luxembourg (-0.9%) and Portugal (-0.2%). Prices remained unchanged in Ireland.

Year-on-year, prices in the EU27 in September were higher by 2.7% (+1.6% in August). Prices increased the most in Lithuania (+9.8%), Bulgaria (+9.0%) and Slovenia (+5.7%). Prices in Slovakia went up by 1.6% and in Germany by 1.5%. The only price decrease was registered in Denmark (-1.0%).

Except the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
