In May 2007, compared to the previous month, prices of industrial producers and market services grew by 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively. Prices of construction work and prices of agricultural producers both grew by 0.3%.
In comparison to May 2006, prices of agricultural producers, industrial producers, construction work and market services were higher by 12.1%, 4.1%, 3.5% and 2.0%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 0.3% due to higher prices of potatoes (+7.5%), poultry (+3.1%), pigs for slaughter (+1.8%), also of fruit and cereals. The prices of vegetables and eggs fell by 27.3% and 3.9%, respectively.

Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.6% (like in April 2007). Marked price increases were recorded again in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+3.6%), ‘basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+0.8%) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+0.4%).

Construction work and construction material input prices grew by 0.3% and 0.5%, respectively.

Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.4% due to a 0.6% price increase in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (higher prices of advertising services).


Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 12.1% (+12.5% in April). The prices of crop products grew by 27.2% due to higher prices of potatoes (+70.0%), cereals (+37.3%) and oil plants. The prices of vegetables (-30.7%) and fruit (-12.5%) decreased. The prices of animal products fell by 2.1%; lower were prices of pigs for slaughter (-9.5%), milk (-1.8%) and cattle for slaughter (-1.5%). Prices of poultry rose by 9.2%.

Prices of industrial producers rose by 4.1% in May (+3.7% in April), which is the highest year-on-year increase since April 2005. Prices increased significantly in ‘basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+8.4%), ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ (+7.2%) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+2.9%). The only decrease was registered in ‘transport equipment’ (-0.9%).
Among the main industrial groupings, the highest year-on-year price increases were in ‘intermediate goods’ (+5.8%) and ‘energy’ (+5.9%).

Construction work and construction material input prices were up by 3.5% (+3.6% in April) and 6.3% (like in April), respectively.

Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 2.0% in total (+1.5% in April). The prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ grew by 3.0% (advertising services +4.8%), and prices of ‘freight transport, cargo handling and storage services’ by 2.8%.


Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2007 *

On average for the EU member states (EU 27), according to the data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices increased by 0.3% month-on-month in April 2007 (like in February and March) . Among member states for which data are available, prices increased the most in Bulgaria and Greece (both +1.9%). Prices in Germany went up by 0.1%. Decreases were recorded in the United Kingdom (-0.8%) and Slovakia (-0.3%).

Year-on-year, prices in the EU 27 were higher by 2.2% in April. Prices increased the most in Luxembourg (+8.7%) and Hungary (+8.0%). Prices in Slovakia rose by 2.2% and in Germany by 1.6%. A decrease was registered again only in Denmark (-2.3%).

Except the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
