Producer prices up again

In May 2006, month-on-month, producer prices in both agriculture and market services were up by 0.8%, industrial producer prices and construction work prices grew by 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively.
In terms of year-on-year comparison, producer prices in agriculture were higher by 2.6%, in industry by 1.5%, prices of construction work and market services were up by 2.3% and 4.3%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 0.8%, following higher prices of vegetables (+16.9%), fruit (+15.7), potatoes (+4,5%) and also of pigs and cereals. Down were the prices of eggs (-4.7%), poultry (-4.3%), milk (-1.2%) and cattle for slaughter (-0.5%).

The prices of industrial producers increased by 0.3%. Prices were up again in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+2.1%). On the increase were also the prices of ‘electrical and optical equipment’ (+1.2%, due to insulated wire and cables) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+0.6%; non-ferrous metals). On the other hand, the prices of ‘coal and lignite, peat’ were down (-2.4%).

Construction work prices rose by 0.1%; construction material inputs prices fell by 0.8%.

The prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.8%, especially due to a price increase in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ by 1.2% (higher prices of ‘advertising services’).


Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 2.6% (like in April). The prices of crop products rose by 13.9% due to higher prices of potatoes (+75.7%), fruit (+44.3%), vegetables (+12.3%) and cereals (+4.1%). The prices of animal products fell by 1.9%; down were the prices of poultry (-11.4%), milk (-4.2%), also of pigs and cattle for slaughter. Only the prices of eggs were up (+8.7%).

The prices of industrial producers increased by 1.5% (+0.5% in April). The growth of prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ speeded up to 18.8% (from 11.5% in April). On the other hand, decreases decelerated in the prices of ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ to 3.2% (from 5.0% in April) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ to 2.0% (from 2.7% in April). The prices of ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ remained higher by 8.2% (like in April).

Among the main industrial groupings, the prices of ‘energy’ grew most (+9.2%). On the other hand, the prices of ‘non-durable consumer goods’ (-0.9%) and ‘intermediate goods’ (-0.7%) dropped.

Construction work prices were up by 2.3% (like in April); construction material inputs prices decreased by 0.3% (-0.2% in April).

The prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 4.3% (+3.9% in April) in total. Prices grew in ‘post and telecommunication services’ (+5.2%; a price increase in telephone services), in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (+4.8%; higher prices of ‘advertising services’ by 17.8% and of ‘architectural and engineering services’ by 4.5%) and in ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+3.5%).


Industrial producer prices in the EU – April 2006*

On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data published by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were up by 0.5% month-on-month in April 2006 (+0.3% in the Czech Republic). Among member states, for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Greece (+1.3%), Germany and Italy (+1.0% both). Prices in Slovakia rose by 0.7%. Decreases were observed only in the United Kingdom (-0.6%) and Denmark (-0.3%).

Year-on-year, prices in the EU25 were higher by 6.6% in total in April 2006, most in the United Kingdom (+12.9%), Luxembourg (+10.3%) and Slovakia (+9.8%). Prices in Germany were higher by 6.1%. The lowest increases were recorded in the Czech Republic (+0.5%) and Slovenia (+2.0%). None of the EU member states registered a drop.
