Year 2006 - industrial producer prices increased by 1.6%

In December 2006, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural producers and construction work grew by 3.4% and 0.2%, respectively. Prices of industrial producers stayed unchanged and those of market services fell by 0.6%.
In comparison to December 2005, prices of agricultural producers, industrial producers, construction work and market services grew by 4.9%, 2.6%, 3.2% and 3.9%, respectively.
In the year 2006 on average, compared with 2005, prices of agricultural producers were higher by 2.2%, industrial producers by 1.6%, construction work by 2.9% and market services by 3.7%

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 3.4% due to considerably higher prices of potatoes (+61.3%). On the increase were prices of fruit (+10.5%), vegetables (+9.7%), oil plants (9.6%), eggs (+9.2), and also cereals and poultry. Prices of pigs for slaughter were lower by 5.3%.

Prices of industrial producers remained unchanged in total. Prices of ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ increased by 0.5%. On the other hand, primarily prices of ‘chemicals, chemical products, man-made fibres’ decreased by 0.5% and ‘electrical and optical equipment’ by 0.4%.

Construction work prices grew by 0.2%; construction material input prices stayed unchanged.

Prices of market services in the business sphere fell by 0.6% due to a price decrease in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (-1.0%; lower prices of advertising services and of exhibition and fair service activities).


Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 4.9% (+1.3% in November). The prices of crop products grew by 23.5% due to considerably higher prices of potatoes (+209.3%). Also prices of cereals (+25.5%), oil plants (+18.3%) and vegetables (+16.9%) were higher. The prices of fruit fell by 5.3%. The prices of animal products fell by 3.9%; prices of pigs for slaughter (-7.4%), poultry (-4.2%) and milk (-4.9%) were down. Prices of eggs grew by 7.3%.

Prices of industrial producers were higher by 2.6% in December (+2.0% in November). The growth of prices strengthened in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ to 5.3% (from 4.3% in November) and ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ to 5.8% (from 5.0% in November). The prices of ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ were higher by 0.5% (on the contrary, they were down by 0.3% in November). Prices of ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ were higher by 6.6% (like in November). Prices of ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ reached the December 2005 level. On the contrary, the drop in prices has been continuing in ‘transport equipment’ by 1.5% (in November by 1.6%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ and ‘energy’ (both +4.3%) grew most .

Construction work and construction material input prices were up by 3.2% (+3.1% in November) and 3.6% (+3.8% in November), respectively.

Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 3.9% in total (+3.4% in November). Prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ grew (+5.9%; growth of prices of ‘advertising services’ by 19.8% and ‘architectural and engineering services’ by 4.6%), and so did the prices of ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+2.4%).


Producer prices in 2006

In the year 2006 on average, compared with 2005, agricultural producer prices were higher by 2.2 %. The prices of crop products grew (+13.3%); prices of animal products fell (-2.9%).

Prices of industrial producers increased in total by 1.6% in 2006 year-on-year. This is the lowest growth in the last three years (they increased by 3.0% in 2005 and by 5.7% in 2004). The reasons are in particular more distinct changes in prices of products in three branches. The change of trend in prices in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ from the growth by 6.8% in 2005 to the fall by 0.7% in 2006. Further, the rise in prices of ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ decelerated to 7.7% (from 16.4% in 2005). A change also occurred in the development of prices in ‘coal and lignite, peat’ from the growth by 17.3% in 2005 to the fall by 0.7% in 2006.

Construction work prices and construction material input prices were higher by 2.9% and 1.3%, respectively.

Prices of market services were higher by 3.7% in 2006. Prices were up in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (+4.8%), ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+2.7%), ‘post and telecommunication services’ (+2.0%), ‘insurance’ (+1.3%) and in ‘freight transport’ (+0.9%).


Industrial producer prices in the EU – November 2006*

On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were up by 0.2% month-on-month in November 2006 (in the Czech Republic decreased by 0.2%). Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in the United Kingdom (+1.2%), in Slovakia (+0.4%) and in Finland (+0.3%). Prices in Germany remained unchanged. The most decreases were observed in Denmark (-2.0%), in Greece and Hungary (both -0.5%).

Year-on-year, industrial producer prices in the EU25 were higher by 3.7% in total in November, the most in Luxembourg (+15.6%), in Hungary (+9.4%) and in Finland (+6.1%). Prices in Slovakia were higher by 5.6% and in Germany by 4.7%. The lowest increases were recorded in Ireland (+0.2%), in Denmark (+1.2%) and in the United Kingdom (+1.3%).
