Prices of petroleum products grew again m-o-m

In April 2007, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural producers fell by 0.7%. Prices of industrial producers, construction work and market services grew identically by 0.2%.
In comparison to April 2006, prices of agricultural producers, industrial producers, construction work and market services were higher by 12.5%, 3.7%, 3.6% and 1.5%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices fell by 0.7%. The prices of crop products decreased by 1.0% due to lower prices of vegetables (-7.1%) and potatoes (-8.1%). The prices of fruit and cereals increased. The prices of animal products fell by 0.4%; prices of pigs dropped by 0.6% and cattle for slaughter by 0.8%.
Prices of industrial producers increased by 0.6% in April (+0.5% in March). The most significant growths of prices were in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+6.1%), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ (+0.6%) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (+0.4%). On the other hand, prices went down in ‘wood and products of wood and cork’ (-0.5%), ‘transport equipment’ (-0.4%) and in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ (-0.4%).
Construction work and construction material input prices grew by 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.
Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.2% due to a 0.3% price increase in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (higher prices of advertising services).
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices were higher by 12.5% (+15.0% in March). The prices of crop products grew by 30.6% due to higher prices of potatoes (+68.0%). Also prices of cereals (+37.9%), vegetables (+19.2%) and oil plants (+12.3%) increased. The prices of animal products fell by 3.8% and so did the prices of pigs for slaughter (-10.2%), milk (-3.0%) and cattle for slaughter (-2.6%). Prices of poultry were higher by 2.8%.
Prices of industrial producers were higher by 3.7% y-o-y in April (+3.6% in March). Prices in ‘basic metals and fabricated metal products’ increased the most (+8.2%) and in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ (+7.2%). In addition, the growth of prices was significant in ‘other non-metallic mineral products’ (+5.1%). Prices went down only in ‘transport equipment’ (-1.4%) and in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (-1.1%).
Like in March, among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (+5.6%) and ‘energy’ (+5.0%) increased the most.
Construction work and construction material input prices were up by 3.6% (+3.7% in March) and 6.3% (+4.7% in March), respectively.
Prices for market services in the business sphere were higher by 1.5% in total (+1.8% in March). Prices for ‘real estate, renting and business services’ (+4.8% for ‘advertising services’) and ‘national goods transport and warehousing’ grew identically by 2.4%.
Industrial producer prices in the EU – March 2007 *
On average for the EU member states (EU 27), according to the data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices increased by 0.3% month-on-month. Among member states for which data are available, prices increased the most in Bulgaria (+1.4%) and in Greece (+1.1%). In March, prices in Slovakia stayed unchanged on the total and in Germany prices went up by 0.3% (like in February). Prices decreased only in Denmark (-0.7%) and in the Netherlands (-0.4%) m-o-m.
Year-on-year, prices in the EU 27 were in March higher by 2.4% (the same price change like in February 2007). Prices increased the most in Bulgaria and Luxembourg (+7.8% both). Prices in Slovakia were higher by 3.1% and in Germany by 2.5%. Prices went down year-on-year only in Denmark, however very significantly (-4.3%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
