Prices of petroleum products continued rising

In April 2006, month-on-month, producer prices in agriculture and industry were up by 1.5% and 0.3% respectively; construction work prices grew by 0.2% and prices of market services by 0.5%.
In terms of year-on-year comparison, producer prices in agriculture and industry rose by 2.6% and 0.5% respectively, construction work prices were up by 2.3% and prices of market services by 3.9%.

Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices grew by 1.5%, following higher prices of potatoes (+17.2%), fruit (+9.5), poultry, cattle for slaughter and cereals. Down were prices of vegetables (-6.0%), eggs (-1.4%) and milk (-0.3%).
The prices of industrial producers rose by 0.3%. Prices were up primarily in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+4.1%), ‘basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (+1.0%) and ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ (+0.8%). A decreasing effect had mainly prices in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (a drop of 0.3%; especially meat and meat products were cheaper by 1.1%).
Construction work prices rose by 0.2%; construction material inputs prices fell by 0.8%.
The prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.5%, reflecting price increases in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (+0.6%) and in insurance (+1.6%).
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices were higher by 2.6% (+0.3% in March). The prices of crop products rose by 17.6%) due to higher prices of potatoes (+68.5%), vegetables (+52.6%), fruit (+22.6%) and oil plants (+12.2%). Cereal prices rose (0.6%) for the first time since September 2004. The prices of animal products fell by 3.6%; down were prices of poultry (-9.6%), pigs for slaughter (-6.6%) and milk (-3.9%). The prices of cattle for slaughter and eggs were up by 2.0% and 5.2%, respectively.
The prices of industrial producers increased by 0.5% (+0.3% in March). Prices were up y-o-y in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ (+8.2%), and in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ (+11.5%). On the other hand, cheaper than in April 2005 were primarily ‘basic metals and fabricated metal products’ (-5.0%) and ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-2.7%).
Among the main industrial groupings, the prices of ‘energy’ grew most (+7.9%); the prices of ‘intermediate goods’ dropped (-2.2%).
Construction work prices were up by 2.3% (like in March); construction material inputs prices were down by 0.2% (+ 0.1% in March).
The prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 3.9% (+3.8% in March) in total. Prices grew in ‘post and telecommunication services’ (+5.0%; price increases in telephone services), in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ (+4.4%; higher prices of ‘advertising services’ by 12.6% and of ‘architectural and engineering services’ by 5.3%) and in ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+2.5%).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – March 2006*
On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data published by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were up by 0.4% in March 2006 month-on-month. Among member states, for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Denmark (+1.3%), Finland (+0.9%), Hungary and Sweden (both +0.8%). Prices in Slovakia rose by 0.7%, in Germany by 0.5% and in the Czech Republic by 0.1%. Decreases were registered only in the Netherlands and Lithuania (both -0.2%).
In terms of year-on-year comparison, prices in the EU25 were higher by 6.6% in total in March 2006, most in the United Kingdom (+14.7%), Denmark (+10.7%) and Slovakia (+9.9%). Prices in Germany grew by 5.9%. The lowest increases were recorded in the Czech Republic (+0.3%) and Slovenia (+2.0%). None of the EU member states registered a drop.

Except for construction work price indices, the data published are final. Construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
