In November 2009, compared with the previous month, agricultural producer prices and market prices fell by 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively. Industrial producer prices increased by 0.4% and construction work prices showed no changes.
In comparison to November 2008, agricultural and industrial producer prices were lower by 16.0% and 2.4%, respectively. Construction work prices increased by 0.2% and market services prices were 0.9% up.

Monthly changes
Agricultural producer prices decreased by 0.2% in total. Prices of crop products fell by 0.3%, prices of potatoes and fruit fell both by 4.3%. Prices of vegetables and cereals dropped by 2.2% and 0.6%, respectively. Prices of oil plants increased by 1.8%. Prices of animal products decreased by 0.2%, lower were prices of pigs for slaughter (-6.3%), poultry (-0.3%) and cattle for slaughter (-0.2%). In contrast, prices of eggs and milk increased by 8.7% and 2.7%, respectively.
Industrial producer prices went up by 0.4% (-0.2% in October). Higher were mainly prices of 'coke, refined petroleum products' by 6.0%, 'mining and quarrying' by 1.0%, ‘chemicals and chemical products’ by 0.6% and 'basic metals and fabricated metal products' by 0.2%. In contrast, lower were mainly prices in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ (-0.2%).
Construction work prices showed no changes and construction material input prices increased by 0.1%.
Market services prices in the business sphere recorded a decrease by 0.1% and so did prices of advertising and market research services and prices in architectural and engineering services, both by 0.1%. Prices in freight transport and in legal and accounting activities dropped both by 0.2%. The biggest drop was recorded in prices of financial intermediation (-0.4%).
Annual changes
Agricultural producer prices were down by 16.0% (-19.3% in October 2009). Prices of crop products fell by 20.9%, mainly due to price decreases in oil plants (-28.3%) and cereals (-23.8%). On the decrease were prices of fruit (-13.8%) and potatoes (-2.5%). Prices of vegetables increased by 0.9% after four month of continuous decrease. Animal products dropped by 10.8%. Decreases were registered for prices of milk (-18.0%), pigs for slaughter (-11.0%) and poultry (-4.2%). Prices of eggs increased (+7.9%).
Industrial producer prices went down by 2.4% (-4.6% in October). The most marked influence on the fall of the total index had a price decrease in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 16.5% (-18.3% in October), in ‘food, beverages and tobacco’ by 4.8% (-5.4% in October). Prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ dropped only by 1.0% (-23.9% in October). Growing were primarily prices in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (+10.5%), ‘water supply’ (+6.9%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (-8.4%) recorded the biggest decrease; the biggest increase was reported for prices of energy (+5.9%).
Construction work prices increased by 0.2% (+0.3% in October). This is the lowest price growth since 1995 when the survey started. Construction material input prices were down by 4.7% (-5.8% in October).
Market services prices in the business sphere rose in total by 0.9% (like in October). Increasing were especially prices in advertising and market research services (+9.0%), employment services (+6.0%) and computer programming, consultancy (+5.7%). In contrast, prices in telecommunications and freight transport dropped by 2.7% and 7.3%, respectively.
Industrial producer prices in the EU – October 2009*
According to the Eurostat News Release, industrial producer prices in the EU27 went up by 0.2% in October (-0.4% in September) month-on-month. Among the member states, for which data are available, the biggest increases were recorded in the United Kingdom (+1.7%), Greece, France and in the Netherlands (+0.9% all). In Slovakia prices went up by 0.2% and in Germany by 0.1%. The largest price decreases were reported for Lithuania (-1.2%), Latvia (-0.7%), in Denmark, Hungary and in Portugal (-0.5% all).
EU27 producer prices were down by 5.8% (-6.9% in September), year-on-year. The biggest falls were observed in Lithuania (-12.8%), the Netherlands (-11.2%)and in Latvia (-10.2%). Prices went down in Germany (-7.5%) and Slovakia (-5.8%). The lowest falls were recorded in Slovenia (-1.4%), Sweden (-1.5%) and in Ireland (-2.6%).

As from January 2009, the industrial producer price index and the market services price index are compiled, calculated and disseminated in accordance with the classifications CZ-NACE Rev. 2 and CZ-CPA 2008. In comparison to CZ-CPA 2002, the most important changes concern industry (Sections B, C and D). The changes apply to all breakdown levels and the substantial changes at the level of subsections are set out in Table 4. The price indices are recalculated back to 1991; the market services price indices back to 1994.
