Producer price indices - September 2006
A considerable drop in prices of refined petroleum products

In September 2006, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural producers, construction work and market services grew by 1.7%, 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively. Prices of industrial producers fell by 0.2%.
In comparison to September 2005, prices of agricultural producers, industrial producers, market services and construction work were higher by 4.2%, 2.4%, 3.4% and 3.1%, respectively.

Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices grew by 1.7%. On the increase were prices of eggs (+7.8), cereals (+5.1%) and pigs for slaughter (+2.4%). Prices of fruit, vegetables and poultry fell by 17.3%, 10.0% and 1.8%, respectively.
Prices of industrial producers decreased by 0.2% (+0.3% in August). Mainly prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ went down by 5.7% (due to the price decrease of crude oil in the world markets). Prices consecutively dropped in ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibers’ by 1.2% (primarily ‘basic chemicals’). On the other hand, the moderate growth has been continuing in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 0.8% in September (the increases of prices were recorded almost for all product groups).
Construction work prices and construction material input prices were higher by 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively.
Prices of market services in the business sphere grew by 0.2% due to a coincident price increase in ‘real estate, renting and business services’ (higher prices of ‘TV and radio commercials’ by 4.2%) and ‘national goods transport’ by 0.2%.
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices were higher by 4.2% (+2.4% in August). The prices of crop products grew by 18.5% due to considerably higher prices of potatoes (+91.2%). Also prices of vegetables (+25.8%), cereals (+14.7%), oil plants (+14.4%) and fruit (+3.8%) were higher. The prices of animal products fell by 2.2%; prices of poultry (-9.7%), eggs (-7.5%) and milk (-6.4%) were down. Prices of pigs for slaughter grew by 3.2%.
Prices of industrial producers were higher by 2.4% (+2.7% in August). The reduction of growth was influenced by the decreases of prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ by 3.1% (a first drop since April 2004). The prices of ‘electrical energy gas, steam and water’ stayed in September on the same level like in August and were higher by 7.9%. Prices of ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ were higher by 3.9% (+2.4% in August) and ‘chemicals, chemical products an man-made fibers’ by 6.8% (+8.0% in August). At the first time after sixteen months, the prices of ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ reached above the price level in the corresponding moths of the previous years. However, their growth was mild and made up 0.1% (primarily prices of ‘bread, fresh pastry goods’, ‘grain mill products, starches and starch products’ and ‘beverages’ were higher).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (+3.8%) and ‘intermediate products’ (+3.7%) grew most.
Construction work prices were up by 3.1% (like in August). Construction material input prices increased by 2.9% (+2.0 in August).
Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 3.4% in total (+4.0% in August). Prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ increased (+4.7%; growth of prices of ‘advertising services’ by 14.7% and ‘architectural and engineering services’ by 4.8%), and so did the prices of ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+2.8%).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – August 2006*
On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were up by 0.1% month-on-month in August 2006 (in the Czech Republic by 0.3%). Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in Hungary (+3.1%), Denmark (+2.8%) and in Sweden (+1.3%). Prices in Slovakia grew by 0.6% and in Germany by 0.2%. The only decreases were observed in the Netherlands (-1.0%) and in Slovenia (-0.2%). Prices remained unchanged in the United Kingdom and in Belgium.
Year-on-year, industrial producer prices in the EU25 grew by 6.2% in total in August, most in Luxembourg (+16.7%), Hungary (+11.1%) and in Denmark (+11.0%). Prices in Slovakia were higher by 8.8% and in Germany by 5.9%. The lowest increases were recorded in Ireland (+1.8%), Slovenia (+2.5%) and in the Czech Republic (+2.7%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
