The decrease of prices of refined petroleum products continued

In October 2006, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural producers and construction work grew by 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively. Prices of industrial producers stayed unchanged and those of market services fell by 0.2%.
In comparison to October 2005, prices of agricultural producers and industrial producers recorded a coincident growth (+1.9%) as well as prices of market services and construction work (+3.2%).

Month-on-month comparison:
Agricultural producer prices grew by 0.1%. On the increase were prices of cereals (+7.5%), eggs (+7.1), and also milk and poultry. The decreases were recorded for prices of potatoes (-9.6%), vegetables (-4.8%), fruit (-4.5%), and also for pigs and cattle for slaughter.
Prices of industrial producers stayed on the same level like in September. At the same time, there were price fluctuations, which evened out mutually. Prices dropped mainly in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ by 5.5% (due to the price reductions on the world markets). On the contrary, prices went up in ‘chemicals, chemical products, man-made fibres’ by 1.5% (primarily ‘basic chemicals’), in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 0.5% and in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ by 0.3% (primarily ‘beverages’ and ‘grain mill products’).
Construction work prices and construction material input prices were higher by 0.2% and 0.5%, respectively.
Prices of market services in the business sphere fell by 0.2% due to a price decrease in ‘insurance’ (-1.2%; lower rates of insurance of motor vehicles), ‘national goods transport’ (-0.5%) and ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (-0.4%).
Year-on-year comparison:
Agricultural producer prices were higher by 1.9% (+4.2% in September). The prices of crop products grew by 9.5% due to considerably higher prices of potatoes (+81.9%). Also prices of vegetables (+15.8%), cereals (+17.8%) and oil plants (+14.8%). The prices of sugar beat and fruit fell by 28.2% and 3.0%, respectively. The prices of animal products fell by 1.7%; prices of poultry (-9.4%), eggs (-4.7%) and milk (-5.9%) were down. Prices of pigs for slaughter grew by 3.7%.
Prices of industrial producers were higher by 1.9% in October (+2.4% in September). The reduction of growth was mainly influenced by the decreases of prices in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ to 8.6% in October (-3.1% in September). The prices of ‘electrical energy gas, steam and water’ were higher by 6.6% in October (+7.9% in September), ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 4.2% (+3.9% in September), ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ by 6.1% (+6.8% in September). For the second time in sixteen months, the prices of ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ reached above the price level of the corresponding months of the previous years by 0.5% (+0.1% in September). Primarily prices of ‘beverages’, ‘bread, fresh pastry goods’, ‘grain mill products’ and ‘animal a vegetable oils and fats’ increased.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (+3.8%) and ‘energy’ (+1.6%) grew most.
Construction work and construction material input prices were coincidently up by 3.2% (+3.1% and +2.9%, respectively in September).
Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 3.2% in total (+3.4% in September). Prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ grew (+4.7%; growth of prices of ‘advertising services’ by 14.0% and ‘architectural and engineering services’ by 4.8%), and so did the prices of ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+2.4%).
Industrial producer prices in the EU – September 2006*
On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were down by 0.7% month-on-month in September 2006 (in the Czech Republic by 0.2%). Among member states for which data are available, the highest decreases were recorded in Denmark (-2.1%), in the United Kingdom and Lithuania (both -1.6%) and in Greece (-1.5%). Prices in Slovakia dropped by 0.7% and in Germany by 0.3%. On the contrary, prices went up in Hungary (+0.9%), Finland (+0.7%) and in Slovenia (+0.6%).
Year-on-year, industrial producer prices in the EU25 were higher by 5.0% in total in September, most in Luxembourg (+13.1%), Hungary (+11.4%) and in Slovakia (+7.5%). Prices in Germany were higher by 5.1%. The lowest increases were recorded in Ireland (+1.6%), in the Czech republic (+2.4%) and in France (+2.7%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
