Growth of industrial producer prices slowed down year-on-year

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices grew by 2.3%. Prices of cereals (+4.7%), eggs (+3.9%), vegetables (+3.4%) and fruit (+2.3%) increased. On the other hand, prices of potatoes (-4.9%), pigs (-2.5%) and cattle for slaughter (-1.0%) decreased.

Industrial producer prices rose by 0.4%, which is the highest growth over last 12 months. Prices went up particularly in ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ by 1.5% (in ‘production and distribution services of electricity’ and ‘steam and hot water supply services’) and in ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made fibres’ by 2.2% (as against a decrease of 0.1% in September). Prices of ‘other non-metallic mineral products’ were higher by 0.5% (glass, roofing tiles and bituminous mixtures).

Prices of construction work and prices of construction material inputs grew by 0.2% both.

Market services prices in the business sphere stagnated in total, only prices of ‘national freight transportation services’ increased by 0.4%.

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were lower by 6.3% (-6.7% in September). Prices of crop products fell by 10.9% due to lower prices of cereals (-15.4%, particularly wheat), potatoes (-14.9%) and oil plants (-7.5%). Prices of vegetables and fruit were higher by 25.2% and 20.2%, respectively. Prices of animal products decreased by 4.0%; prices of eggs, poultry and pigs were lower by 5.2%, 5.9% and 12.5%, respectively. Prices of cattle for slaughter (+8.6%) and milk (+1.2%) were up.

Industrial producer prices were higher by 0.3% (+1.0% in September). This is the lowest increase over last two years. Growth of prices slowed down in ‘coke, refined petroleum products and nuclear fuel’ to 11.3% (from 16.4% in September) and in ‘coal and lignite, peat’ to 4.3% (from 23.2% in September). Price decreases accelerated in ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ to 4.7% (from 4.1% in September) and in ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ to 2.6% (from 2.3% in September). All these CZ-CPA divisions saw considerable price increases in October 2004.
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘energy’ (+7.8%) and ‘consumer durables’ (+1.4%) grew most. On the other hand, particularly prices of ‘intermediate goods’ dropped by 3,8%.

Prices of construction work were higher by 2.6% (+2.7% in September) and prices of construction material inputs decreased by 0.3% (like in September).

Market services prices in the business sphere grew by 2.8% in total (like in September), responding to higher prices in ‘real estate, renting and business activities’ by 3.1% (price increases in ‘advertising services’, ‘computer and related services’ and ‘exhibition, fair and congress organisation services’) and in ‘post and telecommunication services’ by 3.0% (especially higher prices of ‘postal services’). Prices were higher also in ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ and in ‘national freight transportation services’.


Industrial producer prices in the EU – September 2005*

On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data published by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were up by 0.5% m-o-m in September 2005. The highest m-o-m increases among member states for which data are available were recorded in Denmark and Greece (+1.5% both) and in the Netherlands and Lithuania (+1.0% both). Prices in Slovakia increased by 0.5% and in Germany by 0.4%. A decrease was observed only in Luxembourg (-1.2%).

In terms of y-o-y comparison, prices in the EU25 grew by 5.3% in total in September 2005, most in Denmark (+11.7%), the United Kingdom (+10.2%), the Netherlands (+7.6%), Lithuania (+7.5%), Hungary (+7.4%) and Greece (+7.3%). Prices in Slovakia were higher by 5.8% and in Germany by 4.9%. A decrease was reported only for Luxembourg (-1.7%).

Except for price indices of construction work, the data are final. Price indices of construction work are updated using the finished quarterly survey, and final data are published on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
