The m-o-m decrease of industrial producer prices

In November 2006, compared to the previous month, prices of agricultural producers dropped by 0.6%, prices of industrial producers by 0.2% and prices of market services by 0.1%. Construction work prices increased by 0.1%.
In comparison to November 2005 prices of agricultural producers were up by 1.3%, prices of industrial producers by 2.0%, construction work prices by 3.1% and prices of market services by 3.4%.

Month-on-month comparison:

Agricultural producer prices fell by 0.6%. On the decrease were prices of potatoes (-2.7%), fruit (-6.9), vegetables (-7.6%), and also pigs and cattle for slaughter. The increases were recorded for prices of cereals (+4.2%), hops (+5.3%), eggs (+6.4%), and also for milk and poultry.

Prices of industrial producers decreased by 0.2% (in August prices remained unchanged). Primarily prices of ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ went down by 1.5% (prices have been decreasing already for four months) and of ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ by 0.9%. In addition, the prices of ‘chemicals, chemical products and man-made-fibres’ decreased by 0.6%. On the contrary, prices of ‘basic metal, fabricated metal products’ continued to increase slightly (+0.3%).

Construction work prices and construction material input prices were higher by 0.1% and 0.7%, respectively.

Prices of market services in the business sphere fell by 0.1% due to a price decrease in ‘real estate, renting and business services’ (-0.2%, lower prices of letting own property and exhibition and fair service activities).

Year-on-year comparison:

Agricultural producer prices were higher by 1.3% (+1.9% in October). The prices of crop products grew by 9.1% due to considerably higher prices of potatoes (+96.5%). Also prices of cereals (+21.3%), oil plants (+15.4%), hops (+10.7%) and vegetables (+5.9%) were up. The prices of sugar beat and fruit fell by 26.9% and 11.4%, respectively. The prices of animal products fell by 2.4%; prices of poultry (-8.0%), and milk (-5.3%) were down.

Prices of industrial producers were higher by 2.0% in November (+1.9% in October). Mainly the deceleration of the price reduction in ‘coke, refined petroleum products’ to 6.1% (from 8.6% in October) caused the moderate acceleration of the price level growth. The prices of ‘electrical energy, gas, steam and water’ were higher by 6.6% (like in October) and ‘basic metals, fabricated metal products’ by 4.3% (+4.2% in October). The prices of ‘chemical, chemical products and man-made-fibres’ were higher by 5.0% (+6.1% in October). On the contrary, the fall of prices has been continuing in ‘transport equipment’ by 1.6% (-1.5% in October). The prices of ‘food products, beverages and tobacco’ went down by 0.3% (on the contrary in October they went up by 0.5%).
Among the main industrial groupings, prices of ‘intermediate goods’ (+4.0%) and ‘energy’ (+2.3%) grew most.

Construction work and construction material input prices were up by 3.1% and 3.8%, respectively (both +3.2% in October).

Prices of market services in the business sphere were higher by 3.4% in total (+3.2% in October). Prices of ‘real estate, renting and business services’ grew (+5.0%; growth of prices of ‘advertising services’ by 14.8% and ‘architectural and engineering services’ by 4.8%), and so did the prices of ‘financial intermediation, except insurance and pension funding’ (+2.7%).

Industrial producer prices in the EU – October 2006*

On average for the EU member states (EU25), according to data released by Eurostat, industrial producer prices were up by 0.2% month-on-month in October 2006 (in the Czech Republic prices remained unchanged). Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases were recorded in the United Kingdom (+1.3%), in Sweden (0.5%), in Germany and Italy (+0.3% both). Prices in Slovakia grew by 0.1%. Prices decreased the most in Denmark (-1.9%), in Portugal (-1.5%) and in Greece (-0.7%).
Year-on-year, industrial producer prices in the EU25 were higher by 4.3% in total in October, most in Luxembourg (+14.1%), in Hungary (+10.6%) and in Slovakia (+7.1%). Prices in Germany were higher by 4.6%. The lowest increases were recorded in Ireland (+0.5%), in the Czech Republic (+1.9%) and in France (+2.4%).

Except for the construction work price indices, the data published are final. The construction work price indices are refined using the finished quarterly survey and final data are released on the 45th calendar day of the following quarter.
