Industrial production slightly increased in September, year-on-year

Industrial production in September 2024 was in real terms by 1.1% lower, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 0.8%. “Industrial production in September was maintained in a slight increase mainly by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and by manufacture of other transport equipment, especially rail vehicles,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. In September, growth of production continued in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. A decrease was recorded again in enterprises in manufacture of machinery and equipment, manufacture of basic metals, and in coal mining.
The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 5.1%, y-o-y, in September 2024. Non-domestic new orders increased by 1.4%, y-o-y; domestic new orders increased by 12.4%. The value of new orders decreased, month-on-month, by 0.9%. “In September, long-term orders were again successfully concluded by enterprises in manufacture of other transport equipment. The value of new orders also increased in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says. A long-term decrease in the demand continued in manufacture of basic metals and in manufacture of machinery and equipment.
The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 2.0%, y-o-y, in September 2024.
According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 0.2%, year-on-year, in August 2024. The biggest year-on-year growth was recorded by Ireland (by 15.8%) and Denmark (by 10.7%). Czech industry increased by 1.5%. Performance of German industry decreased by 2.5%. As for economic activities of industry in the EU27, the biggest increase was in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (by 8.1%) and the highest decrease was recorded by manufacture of wearing apparel (by 13.7%). According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for September 2024 on 13 November 2024.
