Both industrial production and orders increased in December

Industrial production increased in real terms by 3.8%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in December. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 0.4% higher. The value of new orders increased by 24.9%, y-o-y.

Industrial production in December 2025 was in real terms by 0.4% higher, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 3.8%. “In industry, the end of 2025 was marked by growth. In December, the same as in November, the production increased in most of economic activities of industry. The following contributed to the result the most: manufacture of fabricated metal products, manufacture of electrical equipment, and manufacture of machinery and equipment,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, manufacture of rubber and plastic products, and manufacture of other transport equipment also recorded growth. As for the development of industrial production, the following industries (economic activities) contributed the most in the negative direction: electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, and repair and installation of machinery and equipment.

The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 24.9%, year-on-year, in December 2025. New non-domestic orders increased by 40.0%, y-o-y, domestic new orders recorded a decrease by 0.6%. In the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders was by 18.5% higher. “The December increase in the value of new industrial orders was mainly influenced by concluding long-term orders in manufacture of other transport equipment. After adjusting for extraordinary orders, the estimated value of new orders in industry in total in December would increase by 6%,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says. Important orders also increased in manufacture of fabricated metal products and in manufacture of electrical equipment. The most marked decreases were recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products and in manufacture of paper and paper products.

The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 1.2%, y-o-y, in December 2025.

According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 2.2%, year-on-year, in November 2025. The industry of Ireland increased the most (by 10.6%). Performance of Czech industry increased by 5.7%, German industry strengthened by 1.0%. The biggest year-on-year decrease was recorded by Bulgaria (by 9.3%), followed by Hungary (by 5.5%) and Slovakia (by 4.5%). As for economic activities of industry in the EU27, the biggest increase was in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (by 9.4%), the highest decrease was recorded by printing and reproduction of recorded media (by 4.0%). According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for December 2025 on 16 February 2026.

December 2025 had by one working day more than December 2024.
The year-on-year development of all indicators is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted. Contributions to an increase, or to a decrease, have been calculated from data that had been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days.
