Both industrial production and orders increased, year-on-year

Industrial production was in real terms by 0.3% higher, m-o-m, in August 2026. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 2.6%. “Growth of industrial production also continued in August, despite an influence of company holidays in the car industry. The growth was supported the most by manufacture of other transport equipment, where long-term orders for production of rail vehicles have been completed,“ Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. Similarly as in the previous months, year-on-year growth was recorded by most of economic activities of industry. The growth continued in manufacture of fabricated metal products and in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. A higher growth rate in manufacture of machinery and equipment was partially influenced by a lower level from August 2025.
The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities in August 2026 increased by 5.9%, y-o-y. New non-domestic orders increased by 9.3%, year-on-year. Domestic new orders recorded a decrease by 0.5%. In the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders was by 6.8% lower. “The value of new orders increased, year-on-year, across economic activities of industry. The growth was supported the most by the following: manufacture of electrical equipment, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says. Orders only decreased in manufacture of textiles, manufacture of other transport equipment, and in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.
The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 1.0%, y-o-y, in August 2026.
According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 0.3%, year-on-year, in July 2026. Industry of the Netherlands and Croatia increased the most (by 8.2% and 7.2%, respectively). Performance of Czech industry was higher by 3.1%, y-o-y. The biggest year-on-year decrease was recorded by Bulgaria (by 6.8%) and Romania (by 6.3%). German industry decreased by 2.2%. As for economic activities of industry in the EU27, manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products recorded the highest increase (by 19.3%). Manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations decreased the most (by 7.6%). According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for August 2026 on 15 October 2026.
Notes
August 2026 had the same number of working days as August 2025.
The year-on-year development of all indicators is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted. Contributions to an increase or to a decrease have been calculated from data that had been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days.
