Industrial production increased in real terms by 0.5%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in November. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 3.1% higher. The value of new orders increased by 9.8%, y-o-y.

Industrial production in November 2022 was in real terms by 3.1% higher, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 0.5%. “Industries (economic activities) in the whole automotive segment saw a recovery. However, production of many economic activities of industry decreased, year-on-year, and production of industry as a whole returned back to stagnation in November after several months of fluctuations,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. Manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers increased with a two-digit growth rate both in the year-on-year and month-on-month comparison even despite all the time persisting partial problems with supplies of some components. The most considerable negative contribution was recorded by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. In that industry (economic activity), the same as in October, the following were reflected: a shutdown in nuclear power plants, a warmer weather, and gas savings. A decrease deepened in manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, mainly in glass industry and in production of construction materials, namely as a consequence of high energy intensity of those industries.

The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 9.8%, y-o-y, in November 2022. Non-domestic new orders increased by 8.2%, y-o-y; domestic new orders increased by 13.3%. The value of new orders only decreased in manufacture of basic metals, namely due to a high comparison basis. “Although the order load of industrial enterprises increased, year-on-year, the growth rate of the value of orders has been slowing down in all surveyed industries (economic activities) over the recent months. In the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders slightly decreased for already the second successive month,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says.

The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 0.3%, y-o-y, in November 2022. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased in November 2022 by 13.0%, y-o-y. The higher growth rate was influenced by payments of bonus wages and bonuses in the end of the year.

According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 3.7%, year-on-year, in October 2022. Czech industry increased by 3.1%, y-o-y. The biggest year-on-year growth was recorded by Ireland (by 53.2%) and Denmark (by 10.7%). On the other hand, Estonian industry decreased the most (by 5.8%). Performance of German industry decreased by 0.2%.
