Growth rate of industrial production decreased

In June 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 7.4%, year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 1.9%, month-on-month. The value of new orders grew by 5.0%, year-on-year.

In June 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 7.4%, year-on-year, after its growth in May by 15.2%. Seasonally adjusted industrial production dropped by 1.9%, month-on-month. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y growth of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.1 percentage points, growth by 17.2%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.5 p.p., growth +18.3%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.9 p.p., growth by 14.8%). The deepest decline of industrial production was recorded in manufacture of food products (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 9.5%), manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 11.6%), and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.2 p.p., decrease by 5.8%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 6.0%, y-o-y. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 12.6%. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices, remained on the level from 2010.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 5.0%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders grew by 11.8%, while domestic new orders decreased by 5.2%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of basic metals (contribution +1.8 p.p., growth by 23.7%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.6 p.p., growth by 13.7%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +1.3 p.p., growth by 103.1%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -2.7 p.p., drop by 19.2%), manufacture of paper and paper products (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 6.5%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 1.7%).

The average registered number of employees* ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in June 2011 by 3.4%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in June 2011 by 4.1%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 560.

Industry in the second quarter of 2011

In Q2 2011 industrial production increased at constant prices by 9.1% compared to Q2 2010. The y-o-y growth in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.8 p.p., growth by 21.4%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +1.4 p.p., growth by 16.9%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.9 p.p., growth by 15.9%). Industrial production dropped most in manufacture of food products (contribution by -0.3 p.p., drop by 6.0%), manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution by -0.2 p.p., drop by 5.4%), and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 4.0%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 8.7%, y-o-y. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 15.8%, y-o-y. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 2.4%, y-o-y.

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased by 3.7%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 4.4%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 852.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 6.2%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders increased by 10.7%, while domestic new orders dropped by 0.7%.

According to the Eurostat news release published in May 2011, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 increased by 4.0%, y-o-y. Data for June 2011 will be released by Eurostat on 12 August 2011 at 11:00 a.m.

Specific methodological notes: * ) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
