Growth of industrial production continued

In January 2012, industrial production increased at constant prices by 3.2%, year-on-year. Compared to the previous month seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.6%. The value of new orders increased by 14.9%, y-o-y.

In January 2012, industrial production increased at constant prices by 3.2%, y-o-y; working days adjusted industrial production increased by 0.7%. January 2012 had 1 working day more than January 2011. Seasonally adjusted industrial production (including working days adjustment) was lower by 0.6%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y increase of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.0 percentage points, growth by 9.8%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.9 p.p., growth by 17.4%), and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 9.7%). Industrial production decreased the most in manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.24 p.p., drop by 5.1%), electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.22 p.p., drop by 1.8%), and manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.21 p.p., drop by 6.3%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 7.7%, y-o-y. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 12.8%. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 3.0%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 14.9%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders grew by 17.4%, while domestic new orders increased by 10.5%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +9.5 p.p., growth by 30.4%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +4.6 p.p., growth by 54.3%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.1 p.p., growth by 9.1%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.8 p.p., drop by 6.9%), manufacture of textiles (contribution -0.7 p.p., drop by 24.1%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 2.1%).

The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in January 2012 by 1.1%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in January 2012 by 5.6%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 683.

According to the Eurostat news release published in December 2011, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 0.9%, y-o-y. Data for January 2012 will be released by Eurostat on 14 March 2012 at 11:00 a.m.

Specific methodological notes: * ) The registered number of employees indicator does not include: persons working under various contracts for work, working owners of enterprises and cooperating household members, who do not have contracts of employment. Data on the registered number of employees in industry also exclude agency workers, who have contracts of employment, however, not within the industry.
