Industrial production decreased

In August 2012, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 3.1%, year-on-year. Compared to the previous month seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 2.9%. The value of new orders decreased by 1.4%, y-o-y.
In August 2012, industrial production decreased at constant prices by 3.1%, y-o-y. There was the same number of working days in August 2012 as in August 2011. Seasonally adjusted industrial production was lower by 2.9%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y decrease of industrial production: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.7 p.p., drop by 19.4%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 3.6%), and manufacture of basic metals (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 13.6%). Industrial production increased the most in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 9.9%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.15 p.p., growth by 2.2%), and manufacture of beverages (contribution +0.13 p.p., growth by 6.4%).
August data were partially influenced by movements of company holidays during both July and August, namely in the opposite direction than in July, in which industrial production increased by 4.2%, y-o-y. Those influences will be balanced in accumulation for July and August 2012. For the last two months, industrial production increased by 0.5%, y-o-y; after working days adjustment it decreased by 0.6%.
Sales from industrial activity at current prices decreased by 0.7%, y-o-y, in August 2012. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 0.4%. Domestic sales, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises decreased at current prices by 1.8%.
In accumulation for July and August 2012, sales from industrial activity increased by 2.4%, y-o-y. Direct export sales increased by 4.8% and domestic sales by 0.2%.
The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities decreased by 1.4%, y-o-y, in August 2012. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 0.5%, while domestic new orders decreased by 3.0%. The y-o-y drop of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -2.5 p.p., drop by 8.1%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution -1.0 p.p., drop by 11.2%) and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -0.5 p.p., drop by 4.0%). The value of new orders increased in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +1.5 p.p., growth by 23.1%), manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +0.7 p.p., growth by 8.0%), and manufacture of paper and paper products (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 6.9%).
In accumulation for July and August 2012, the value of new industrial orders increased by 7.0%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders increased by 10.5%, while domestic orders increased by 0.6%.
The average registered number of employees * ) in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees decreased in August 2012 by 1.0%. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in August 2012 by 3.0%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 743.
According to the Eurostat news release published in July 2012, working day adjusted industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.5%, y-o-y. Data for August 2012 will be released by Eurostat on 12 October 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
