Moderate growth of industrial production continued in April

Industrial production in April 2025 was in real terms by 0.9% higher, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 2.0%. “The April growth of industrial production was mainly influenced by a low comparison basis from the previous year in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply. Also manufacture of food products and manufacture of electrical equipment supported growth,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. A year-on-year decrease of production was recorded, for example, by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and by manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. Production of manufacturing in total was by almost one percent higher, year-on-year.
The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities in April 2025 increased by 7.7%, y-o-y. New non-domestic orders increased by 12.7%, y-o-y. Domestic new orders recorded a decrease by 0.8%. In the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders was by 3.7% higher. “The value of new industrial orders increased in April especially thanks to high orders in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers. Also enterprises producing electrical equipment mainly for the automotive industry recorded growth,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says. The value of new orders decreased, y-o-y, in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products and in manufacture of chemicals and chemical products. In manufacture of other transport equipment, the decrease was influenced by a higher comparison basis.
The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 2.0%, y-o-y, in April 2025.
According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 2.7%, year-on-year, in March 2025. Industry of Ireland increased the most (by 50.2%). Performance of Czech industry increased by 1.5%, German industry strengthened by 0.3%. The biggest year-on-year decrease was recorded by Bulgaria (by 8.3%). As for economic activities, the biggest increase in the EU27 was recorded by manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (by 37.5%) and the biggest slump by manufacture of leather and related products (by 13.0%). According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for April 2025 on 13 June 2025.
Notes
April 2025 had one working day less than April 2024. In compliance with the CZSO’s Data revision policy, concurrently with processing of data for April 2025, data for January through March 2025 have been revised.
The year-on-year development of all indicators is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted. Contributions to an increase or to a decrease have been calculated from data that had been adjusted for working days.
