Industrial production1 in June 2021 was in real terms by 1.0% higher, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 11.4%. The following economic activities contributed the most to the y-o-y increase of industrial production: manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +2.2 percentage points (p. p.), growth by 21.0%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +1.33 p. p., growth by 7.0%), and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution +1.26 p. p., growth by 17.8%). Industrial production decreased in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution −0.5 p. p., decrease by 5.1%), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution −0.1 p. p., decrease by 8.2%), and manufacture of wearing apparel (contribution −0.01 p. p., decrease by 1.9%).

“In the month-on-month comparison, Czech industrial production slightly increased; however, in the automotive industry, it decreased already for the second successive month. Not only there, but also in other industries (economic activities) the lack of sources and increase of prices was reflected,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of Industrial Statistics Unit, adds.

“The double-digit year-on-year increase of industrial production was still influenced by a low comparison basis. Production of Czech industry in the first half-year of 2021 was by 15% higher than a year ago an reached the level it had before the coronavirus pandemic,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department, says.

Sales from industrial activity at current prices1 increased by 15.6%, y-o-y, in June 2021. Direct export sales of industrial enterprises increased at current prices by 12.8%. Domestic sales, which also include indirect export via non-industrial enterprises, increased at current prices by 19.5%.

New orders decreased in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution −0.5 p. p., decrease by 19.8%), manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution −0.2 p. p., decrease by 14.0%), and manufacture of wearing apparel (contribution −0.1 p. p., decrease by 13.3%).

The average registered number of employees2 in industry decreased by 0.9%, y-o-y, in June 2021. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased by 10.1%, y-o-y, in June 2021. The average wage growth was again influenced by a low comparison basis and payments of bonuses.

2 Indicators related to employment in industry apply to the whole population of enterprises the principal (prevailing) activity of which is industry. The indicator of the registered number of employees does not include persons working under various contracts for work (an agreement on work performance and an agreement on work activity), working owners of enterprises, and contributing family workers (cooperating household members) who do not have contracts of employment.
