Industrial production in August was in real terms by 1.1% lower, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it decreased by 1.3%. “After the growth in July, the industrial production moderately decreased in August. In the cumulation for both holiday months (July and August), performance of Czech industry stagnated, year-on-year. The August decrease in industrial production was the most influenced by manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, manufacture of machinery and equipment, and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. Especially the following contributed in a positive way to the development of industrial production in August: manufacture of fabricated metal products, production of electricity (electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply), and pharmaceutical industry (manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations).

The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities in August 2025 decreased by 5.5%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders decreased by 6.3%, y-o-y. Domestic new orders recorded a decrease by 4.1%. In the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders was also by 5.5% lower. “The decrease of new industrial orders was influenced the most by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, where the influence of the last year’s higher comparison basis was partially reflected. However, a year-on-year decrease was recorded by majority of surveyed industries,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, adds. The value of new orders only increased, year-on-year, in manufacture of fabricated metal products, in manufacture of other transport equipment, and in pharmaceutical industry (manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations).

The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 1.9%, y-o-y, in August 2025.

According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 1.8%, year-on-year, in July 2025. The industry of Latvia and Ireland increased the most (by 9.8% and 8.1%, respectively). Performance of German industry increased by 2.1%, Czech industry increased by 1.8%.
