Industry: sustained growth of production and orders

In April 2010 seasonally adjusted industrial production was 1.0% higher compared with March 2010 and in the year-on-year comparison it increased by 10.9%. The value of new orders grew by 14.2%, y-o-y.

In April 2010 industrial production increased by 10.9% compared with April 2009. Seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 1.0%. compared to March 2010. The y-o-y growth of industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.4 p.p., growth by 20.9%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution +1.8 p.p., growth by 55.1%) and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +1.3 p.p., growth by 17.3%). The biggest drop of industrial production was reported for manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 6.7%), manufacture of beverages (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 16.0%) and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 12.0%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 9.7% compared with April 2009. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 15.0%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 49.5%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities raised by 14.2% compared with April 2009 (non-domestic new orders increased by 17.3%). The annual growth of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of basic metals (contribution +3.4 p.p., growth by 53.4%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.4 p.p., growth by 7.4%), and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +2.3 p.p., growth by 19.8%). Industrial new orders recorded a drop in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.1 p.p., drop by 3.5%).

The average registered number of employees in enterprises with 50+ employees decreased by 6.3% compared with April 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 5.1% compared with April 2009 and reached CZK 24 754.

According to the Eurostat news release published in March 2010, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 increased by 6.0%, y-o-y. Data for April 2010 will by released by Eurostat on 14 June 2010 at 11:00 a.m.
