Industrial production increased in real terms by 3.1%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in October. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 3.7% lower. The value of new orders increased by 18.1%, y-o-y.

“In October, production has slightly increased, year-on-year; however, it was solely due to the development in production of motor vehicles. The last year’s low comparison basis was reflected there the same as in the previous two months,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.

Industrial production in October 2022 was in real terms by 3.7% lower, m-o-m. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 3.1%. “The same as the production of car makers substantially helped keep the year-on-year growth of industry, it also influenced the month-on-month decrease. It is because partial difficulties with supplies of some components started to emerge in this industry again in October,” Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, adds. In relation to the year-on-year growth of production of car industry, there was a higher demand for electrotechnical production, mainly electric lighting equipment for transport vehicles. Manufacture of non-domestic cooling and ventilation equipment was also successful. A decrease by a fifth in the industry of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply was owing to shutdowns in nuclear power plants and further to a considerably lower consumption of gas mainly caused by an extraordinarily warm weather in combination with economising.

The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 18.1%, y-o-y, in October 2022. Non-domestic new orders increased by 15.1%, y-o-y; domestic new orders increased by 24.6%. The growth of the value of new orders was also, the same as production, considerably influenced by year-on-year fluctuations in production of motor vehicles. In October, a year-on-year decrease was only recorded by manufacture of basic metals, in which a high energy intensity of the industry has been reflected recently. On the other hand, in the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders slightly decreased, when there was a decrease in most of the surveyed economic activities (industries).

The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 0.3%, y-o-y, in October 2022. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased in October 2022 by 8.6%, y-o-y.

According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 increased by 5.7%, year-on-year, in September 2022. Czech industry increased by 8.3%, y-o-y. The biggest year-on-year growth was recorded by Ireland (by 31%) and Denmark (by 19%). Performance of German industry increased by 3.6%. On the other hand, Estonian industry decreased the most (by 7.5%).

October 2022 had the same number of working days as October 2021. In compliance with the CZSO Data Revision Policy, data for July through September 2022 have been revised together with processing of data for October 2022.
The year-on-year development of all indicators is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted. Contributions to an increase or to a decrease have been calculated from data that had been adjusted for working days.
