Slight growth of industrial production and orders continued

Industrial production was in real terms by 1.4% higher, m-o-m, in April 2026. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 1.5%. “In April, industrial production moderately increased again, namely thanks to manufacture of motor vehicles and their spare parts and to manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products,“ Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. The following also contributed to the growth: manufacture of fabricated metal products, manufacture of chemicals and chemical products, manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products, especially of those for construction. As for the development of industrial production, especially decreases in the following industries (economic activities) had an influence in the negative direction: mining and quarrying (mainly of coal) and repair and installation of machinery and equipment. Production was lower, y-o-y, also in manufacture of food products and manufacture of beverages.
The value of new orders at current prices in surveyed industrial CZ-NACE activities in April 2026 increased by 2.7%, y-o-y. New non-domestic orders increased by 3.5%, year-on-year. Domestic new orders recorded an increase by 1.1%. In the month-on-month comparison, the value of new orders was by 3.3% higher. “An increase in the value of new orders in industry was mainly supported by manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products. Orders increased also in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers and as well as in manufacture of machinery and equipment, for example, machinery for construction,“ Veronika Doležalová, Head of the Industrial Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says. A decrease in orders was recorded in manufacture of fabricated metal products, pharmaceutical industry, manufacture of textiles, and manufacture of paper and paper products.
The average registered number of employees in industry decreased by 1.0%, y-o-y, in April 2026.
According to data released by Eurostat, industrial production in the EU27 decreased by 1.0%, year-on-year, in March 2026. The biggest year-on-year decrease was recorded by Ireland (by 19.4%). German industry decreased by 3.0%. Industry of Denmark and Latvia increased the most (by 16.8% and 9.5%, respectively). Performance of Czech industry increased by 0.9%. As for economic activities of industry in the EU27, manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations decreased the most (by 23.3%); the highest increase was recorded in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (by 17.4%). According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for April 2026 on 15 June 2026.
Notes
April 2026 had the same number of working days as April 2025. In compliance with the CZSO’s Data revision policy, concurrently with processing of data for April 2026, data for January through March 2026 have been revised.
The year-on-year development of all indicators is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted. Contributions to an increase or to a decrease have been calculated from data that had been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days.
