In May 2009 seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.1% compared with April 2009. Industrial production fell by 22.0% compared with May 2008.
In May 2009 seasonally adjusted construction output fell by 4.1% compared with April 2009. Construction output dropped by 2.1% compared with May 2008.

Industry
In May 2009 industrial production declined by 22.0% compared with May 2008. Working day adjusted the industrial production dropped by 20.1%. May 2009 had one working day less compared to May 2008. Seasonally adjusted (SA) and working day adjusted (WDA) industrial production decreased by 2.1% compared with April 2009. The annual decline in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution –3.2 p.p., drop by 32.7%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution –2.7 p.p., drop by 30.9%) and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution –2.7 p.p., drop by 17.3%). The biggest drop was recorded in manufacture of basic metals (drop by 42.5%, contribution –2.1 p.p.).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices fell by 23.4% compared with May 2008. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices decreased by 23.9%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 47.4%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities declined by 27.8% compared with May 2008 (non-domestic new orders fell by 27.0%). The y-o-y drop of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution –8.1%, drop by 48.4%), manufacture of basic metals (contribution –5.3%, drop by 54.4%) and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution –3.7 p.p., drop by 30.6%). New orders grew only in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution 0.3 p.p., growth by 15.4%).

The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 12.5% compared with May 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage in May 2009 rose by 1.9% in comparison with May 2008 and reached CZK 23 612.


Construction
In May 2009 construction output decreased by 2.1% at constant prices compared with May 2008, working day adjusted construction output dropped by 1.2%. Seasonally adjusted construction output decreased by 4.1% compared with April 2009. Like in the previous months building construction output continued decreasing (contribution –6.8 p.p., drop by 9.5%) and civil engineering output growing (contribution 4.7 p.p., growth by 16.7%).

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees increased by 0.8% compared with May 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased by 1.4% compared with May 2008 and reached CZK 26 276.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 declined by 19.4% in April 2009, compared with April 2008. The data for May 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 on 14 July 2009.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA construction output in the EU 27 dropped by 5.1% in April 2009, compared with April 2008. Building construction fell by 7.1% and civil engineering increased by 3.9%. The data for May 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 on 17 July 2009.
