Industry and construction recorded an increase compared with May 2009

In June 2009 seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 2.9% compared with May 2009.
Industrial production fell by 12.2% compared with June 2008.
In June 2009 seasonally adjusted construction output increased by 1.0% compared with May 2009. Construction output rose by 0.1% compared with June 2008.

Industry
In June 2009 industrial production declined by 12.2% compared with June 2008. Working day adjusted the industrial production dropped by 14.3%. June 2009 had one working day more compared to June 2008. Seasonally adjusted (SA) and working day adjusted (WDA) industrial production increased by 2.9% compared with May 2009. The annual decline in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution –2.5 p.p., drop by 26.6%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution –1.7 p.p., drop by 16.5%), manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products; casting of metals (contribution –1.7%, drop by 33.3%) and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution –1.3 p.p., drop by 8.1%). Industrial production increased in manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco (contribution +0.4 p.p., growth by 9.8%) and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +0.05 p.p., growth by 4.7%).
Revenues from industrial activity at current prices fell by 14.2% compared with June 2008. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices decreased by 11.1%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 49.6%.
The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities declined by 13.0% compared with June 2008 (non-domestic new orders fell by 8.3%). The y-o-y drop of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products; casting of metals (contribution –5.2%, drop by 49.5%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution –2.9%, drop by 19.2%) and manufacture of computers, electrical and optical equipment (contribution –1.4 p.p., drop by 12.8%). New orders grew only in manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +1.0 p.p., growth by 127.1%) and manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 4.5%).
The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 13.1% compared with June 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 2.4% compared with June 2008 and reached CZK 23 621.
Construction
In June 2009 construction output increased by 0.1% at constant prices compared with June 2008, working day adjusted construction output dropped by 0.9%. June 2009 had one working day more compared to June 2008. Seasonally adjusted construction output increased by 1.0% compared with May 2009. Like in the previous months building construction output continued decreasing (contribution –6.2 p.p., drop by 8.9%) and civil engineering output growing (contribution +6.3 p.p., growth by 21.1%).
The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees increased by 1.1% compared with June 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 3.5% compared with June 2008 and reached CZK 26 757.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 declined by 15.9% in May 2009, compared with May 2008. The data for June 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 on 12 August 2009.
According to the Eurostat news release, WDA construction output in the EU 27 dropped by 9.6% in May 2009, compared with May 2008. Building construction fell by 11.5% and civil engineering by 1.7%. The data for June 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 on 19 August 2009.

Industrial production in Q2 2009 fell by 18.8%, compared to Q2 2008. The year-on-year drop of the industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of metal structures and fabricated metal products (contribution –2.8 p.p., drop by 31.2%), manufacture of motor vehicles trailers and semi-trailers (contribution –2.8 p.p., drop by 17.1%) and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution –2.6 p.p., drop by 26.4%). Industrial production grew in food products, beverages and tobacco (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 3.6%).
Revenues from industrial activity at current prices fell by 20.3% compared to Q2 2008. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices decreased by 19.5% compared to Q2 2008.
The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 12.2% compared to Q2 2008. The biggest drop was recorded in manufacture of wearing apparel (-27.2%), manufacture of textiles (-25.0%), manufacture of leather and related products (-22.0%), manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-19.7%) and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (-17.3%). Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 2.2% compared to Q2 2008 to reach CZK 23 761.
The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities declined by 22.6% compared to Q2 2008. Non-domestic new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities fell by 20.9% compared to Q2 2008.
Construction
Construction output in Q2 2009 at constant prices remained on the level of the previous year. Civil engineering output recorded an increase by 21.9% compared to Q2 2008 and building construction output dropped by 8.5%.
The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees increased by 0.7% in Q2 2009 compared to Q2 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased* by 8.3% compared to Q2 2008 and reached CZK 27 976.
