Industry and construction recorded a drop

In July 2009 seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased by 2.4% compared with June 2009. Industrial production fell by 18.2% compared with July 2008.
In July 2009 seasonally adjusted construction output fell by 0.7% compared with June 2009. Construction output dropped by 4.4% compared with July 2008.

Industry

In July 2009 industrial production declined by 18.2% compared with July 2008. Working day adjusted the industrial production dropped by 16.1%. July 2009 had one working day less compared to July 2008. Seasonally adjusted (SA) and working day adjusted (WDA) industrial production decreased by 2.4% compared with June 2009. The annual decline in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution –3.9 p.p., drop by 24.6%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution –3.1 p.p., drop by 34.4%), fabricated metal products (contribution –2.3 p.p., drop by 25.0%) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products; casting of metals (contribution –1.6%, drop by 32.6%). Industrial production grew in manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 3.1%) and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +0.04 p.p., growth by 3.0%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices fell by 19.7% compared with July 2008. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices decreased by 19.6%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 46.2%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities declined by 21.2% compared with July 2008 (non-domestic new orders fell by 22.0%). The y-o-y drop of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products; casting of metals (contribution –5.1%, drop by 49.5%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution –5.0%, drop by 18.3%) and manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution –3.6 p.p., drop by 27.5%). New orders grew only in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution +0.1 p.p., growth by 5.5%).

The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 12.9% compared with July 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 2.4% compared with July 2008 and reached CZK 24 300.

Construction

In July 2009 construction output decreased by 4.4% at constant prices compared with July 2008, working day adjusted construction output dropped by 3.3%. July 2009 had one working day less compared with July 2008. Seasonally adjusted construction output decreased by 0.7% compared with June 2009. Like in the previous months building construction output continued decreasing (contribution –8.0 p.p., drop by 11.4%) and civil engineering output growing (contribution +3.6 p.p., growth by 12.1%).

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees increased by 0.4% compared with July 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 3.4% compared with July 2008 and reached CZK 29 189.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 declined by 15.6% in June 2009, compared with June 2008. The data for July 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 a.m. on 14 September 2009.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA construction output in the EU 27 dropped by 14.1% in June 2009, compared with June 2008. Building construction fell by 17.7% and civil engineering increased by 1.2%. The data for July 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 a.m. on 17 September 2009.
