Industrial production grew 1.8%, construction was 3.5% up, y-o-y

In December 2009 seasonally adjusted industrial production dropped by 0.4% compared with November 2009. Industrial production was 1.8% up compared with December 2008.
In 2009 industrial production fell by 13.4% compared with 2008. Revenues from industrial activity at current prices were 15.1% down. The value of new orders fell by 16.4%.
Seasonally adjusted construction output decreased by 1.4% compared with November 2009. Construction output increased by 3.5% compared with December 2008.
In 2009 construction output dropped by 1.0% compared with 2008.

Industry in December 2009

In December 2009 industrial production increased by 1.8% compared with December 2008. Working days adjusted industrial production dropped by 0.6%. December 2009 had one working day more compared with December 2008. Seasonally adjusted (plus WDA) the industrial production was 0.4% down compared to November 2009. The annual growth in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.6 p.p., growth by 30.2%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +1.1 p.p., growth by 48.4%) and manufacture of rubber and plastic products (contribution +0.8%, growth by 15.5%). Industrial production dropped most in manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -2.3 p.p., drop by 21.4%), manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (contribution -1.1 p.p., drop by 24.5%) and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.6 p.p., drop by 32.0%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices fell by 0.8% compared with December 2008. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 3.6%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 42.1%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities raised by 12.4% compared with December 2008 (non-domestic new orders increased by 17.0%). The annual growth of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +11.0 p.p., growth by 48.2%), manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution +4.9 p.p., growth by 322.4%) and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (contribution +3.1%, growth by 57.8%). New orders dropped in manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, casting of metals (contribution -3.2%, drop by 29.9%), in manufacture of metal structures and fabricated metal products (contribution -2.6 p.p., drop by 16.8%) and manufacture of personal computers, electronic and optical equipment (contribution -0.3%, drop by 1.9%).

The average registered number of employees in enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 12.9% compared with December 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 10.7% compared with December 2008 and reached CZK 27 012.

According to the Eurostat news release published in November 2009, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 declined by 6.4%. Data for December 2009 will by released by Eurostat on 12 February 2010 at 11:00 a.m.

Industry in Q4 2009

Industrial production in Q4 2009 dropped by 2.1%, y-o-y, working days adjusted it fell by 2.8%. Q4 2009 had one working day more compared with Q4 2008.

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices were in Q4 2009 down by 5.4%. Revenues from direct exports of industrial enterprises in Q4 2009 fell by 2.5% at current prices compared to Q4 2008.

The average registered number of employees in enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 12.5% in Q4 2009. Their average monthly nominal wage in Q4 2009 rose by 7.3% compared with Q4 2008 and reached CZK 26 163.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities raised in Q4 2009 by 1.7% compared with Q4 2008. Non-domestic new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 6.4% compared with Q4 2008.

Industry in 2009

Industrial production in Q4 2009 dropped by 13.4%, y-o-y, working days adjusted it fell by 12.7%. 2009 compared to 2008 had 2 working days less. The y-o-y decline of industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -2.6 p.p., drop by 27.2%), manufacture of metal structures and fabricated metal products (contribution -2.0 p.p., drop by 21.8%) and manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution -1.6 p.p., drop by 10.2%). Industrial production grew in manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 5.3%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices were in 2009 down by 15.1% compared to 2008. Revenues from direct exports of industrial enterprises in 2009 fell by 15.1% at current prices compared to 2008.

The average registered number of employees in enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 11.3% in 2009 compared to 2008. The biggest drop was reported for manufacture of clothing (-23.9%), manufacture of textiles (-22.2%) and manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products (-21.3%). Their average monthly nominal wage in 2009 rose by 3.6% compared with 2008 and reached CZK 23 931.

New orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities dropped by 16.4% compared to 2008. Non-domestic new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 15.3% compared with 2008.

Construction in December 2009

In December 2009 construction output increased by 3.5% at constant prices compared with 2008, working days adjusted construction output raised by 2.2%. December 2009 had one working day more compared to December 2008. Seasonally adjusted construction output was 1.4% down in December, m-o-m. The y-o-y growth of construction output was most contributed to by building construction (contribution +3.3 p.p., growth by 4.6%). Also the civil engineering output registered an increase (contribution +0.2 p.p., growth by 0.9%).

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees dropped by 1.7% compared with December 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 29.0% compared with December 2008 and reached CZK 38 534. A marked increase of the average wage in December 2009 was contributed to by special annual remunerations, 13 th month pays and also bonuses for finalization of big projects and fulfilment of economic task.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA construction output in the EU 27 dropped by 6.7% in November 2009 compared with November 2008. Building construction fell by 9.4% and civil engineering increased by 4.4%. The data for December 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 a.m. on 17 February 2010.

Construction in Q4 2009

Construction output in Q4 2009 increased by 2.7% at constant prices compared to Q4 2008. WDA construction output increased by 2.3%. In Q4 2009 there was one working day more compared to Q4 2008. Civil engineering recorded an increase of construction output by 9.9% and building construction output dropped by 0.6%, compared to Q4 2008.

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees dropped by 1.3% compared with Q4 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 11.0% compared with Q4 2008 and reached CZK 32 521. An increase of the average wage in Q4 2009 was contributed to payment of special remunerations in December.

Construction in 2009

Construction output in 2009 decreased by 1.0% at constant prices compared to 2008. WDA construction output dropped by 0.6%. In 2009 there were two working days less compared to 2008. Civil engineering recorded an increase of construction output by 14.3% (contribution 4.0 p.p.) and building construction output dropped by 7.0% (contribution -5.0 p.p.).

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees dropped by 0.2% compared with 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 5.5% compared with 2008 and reached CZK 28 091.
