Industrial production decrease slowed down, y-o-y, construction output recorded a moderate growth

In August 2009 seasonally adjusted industrial production increased by 4.0% compared with July 2009. Industrial production fell by 8.4% compared with August 2008.
In August 2009 seasonally adjusted construction output increased by 1.5% compared with July 2009. Construction output increased by 0.6% compared with August 2008.

Industry

In August 2009 industrial production declined by 8.4% compared with August 2008. Seasonally adjusted the industrial production increased by 4.0%. The annual decline in industrial production was most contributed to by manufacture fabricated metal products (contribution -2.0 p.p., drop by 20.6%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -1.9 p.p., drop by 21.4%) and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution -1.2 p.p., drop by 19.8%). Industrial production grew in manufacture of motor vehicle, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.2 p.p., growth by 17.7%) and in manufacture of food, beverages and tobacco (contribution +0.3 p.p., growth by 6.4%).

Revenues from industrial activity at current prices fell by 12.7% compared with August 2008. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices decreased by 8.7%. Their share in total revenues of industrial enterprises made up 46.9%.

The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities declined by 13.6% compared with August 2008 (non-domestic new orders fell by 10.0%). The y-o-y drop of total new orders was most contributed to by manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products; casting of metals (contribution -4.7%, drop by 43.9%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution -3.9 p.p., drop by 29.1%) and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution -2.9%, drop by 21.1%). New orders grew only in manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +2.4 p.p., growth by 10.3%).

The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50 or more employees decreased by 14.0% compared with August 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage rose by 5.4% compared with August 2008 and reached CZK 22 899.
August year-on-year changes of production, sales, new orders and wages are affected by low comparative base of the previous year.


Construction

In August 2009 construction output increased by 0.6% at constant prices compared with August 2008, seasonally adjusted construction output raised by 1.5%, m-o-m. Like in the previous months building construction output continued decreasing (contribution -3.6 p.p., drop by 5.1%) and civil engineering output growing (contribution +4.2 p.p., growth by 14.0%).

The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50 or more employees increased by 0.3% compared with August 2008. Their average monthly nominal wage increased by 4.2% compared with August 2008 and reached CZK 25 899.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA industrial production in the EU 27 declined by 14.7% in July 2009, compared with July 2008. The data for August 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 a.m. on 14 October 2009.

According to the Eurostat news release, WDA construction output in the EU 27 dropped by 11.1% in July 2009, compared with July 2008. Building construction fell by 13.7% and civil engineering increased by 0.3%. The data for August 2009 will be released by Eurostat at 11:00 a.m. on 19 October 2009.
