The construction output increased by 12.8%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in September. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 3.2% lower. The approximate value of building permits granted decreased by 8.0%. The number of started dwellings decreased by 19.6%, y-o-y; the number of completed dwellings increased by 69.5%, y-o-y.

The construction output decreased by 3.2%, month-on-month, in September. In the year-on-year comparison, it increased by 12.8%. Production in building construction increased by 11.0% and civil engineering construction increased by 15.9%. “In September, construction continued to be successful, when the production recorded the seventh successive double-digit growth. A low comparison basis from last September when the construction output was influenced by extraordinarily high precipitation also partially contributed to the good result,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), explains.

The approximate value of constructions, for which a building permit was granted in September, reached CZK 41.5 bn and decreased by 8.0%, y-o-y.

“In September, construction of 3 556 dwellings started, which is, for the time being, this year’s monthly maximum. However, despite that, due to a high comparison basis, the number of started dwellings decreased by one fifth, year-on-year,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the CZSO, says. 2 960 dwellings were completed, which was a year-on-year increase by 69.6%.

According to data of Eurostat, construction output in the EU27 in August 2025 stagnated, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for September 2025 on 20 November 2025.

For more detailed information on the development in construction see the Supplementary information to the news release on construction.

Notes

The year-on-year development of construction output (production) has been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month rates have also been seasonally adjusted.
