The construction output increased by 0.9%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in February. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 0.6% lower. The approximate value of building permits granted increased by 30.2%. The number of started dwellings increased by 40.1%, y-o-y; the number of completed dwellings decreased by 49.5%, y-o-y.

The construction output was by 0.6% lower, m-o-m, in February; in the y-o-y comparison, it increased by 0.9%. The production in the building construction increased by 0.7% and the civil engineering construction increased by 1.3%, y-o-y. “In February, the construction output stagnated, year-on-year, and the stagnation was largely influenced by a higher comparison basis,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.

The approximate value of constructions for which a building permit was granted in February reached CZK 45.6 billion and increased by 30.2%, year-on-year. “The February growth of the approximate value was thanks to granting building permits to a higher number of constructions with budgets of over one billion CZK. However, even after having modelled their deduction, we still recorded an increase in the value by a tenth,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, explains.

In February 2025, construction of 2 607 dwellings started and the number increased by 40.1%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 1 683, which was a decrease by 49.5%, year-on-year.

According to Eurostat data, the construction output in the EU27 in January 2025 increased by 0.2%, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for February 2025 on 23 April 2025.
