Growth of construction output continued thanks to building construction

The construction output was by 0.4% higher, month-on-month, in July. “Construction output increased by 1.8%, year-on-year, in July. The building construction, which increased by 4.9%, year-on-year, contributed to that again. Civil engineering construction recorded a y-o-y decrease by 3.4%,” Petra Kačírková from the Construction Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.
In July 2026, 5 622 building permits were granted and the number increased by 4.0%, y-o-y. “The floor area of new buildings permitted in July decreased by 16.9%, y-o-y, due to a category of non-residential buildings, in which large production and storage areas were permitted last year,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the CZSO, explains.
In July 2026, construction of 2 935 dwellings started and the number increased by 11.7%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 3 328, which was a y-o-y increase by 46.1%. The year-on-year growth in the number of started and completed dwellings was driven by multi-dwelling buildings in July.
According to Eurostat data, the construction output in the EU27 in June 2026 increased by 0.2%, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for July 2026 on 18 September 2026.

In compliance with the CZSO’s Data revision policy, data for January through June 2026 have been refined.
The year-on-year development of the construction output (production) is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month rates are provided for the trend cycle of construction output.
Detailed time series are primarily presented via the DataStat application. Current tables in the Public database continue to be updated and fully functional up until the end of operation of the Public database.
Based on changes in the legislation related to the Programme of statistical surveys, data on an approximate value of permitted constructions (for which a building permit is granted) are not available any more.
