The construction output decreased by 0.3%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in April. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 3.0% higher. The approximate value of permitted constructions decreased by 16.5%. The number of started dwellings increased by 35.4%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings decreased by 8.1%, y-o-y.

Construction output increased by 3.0%, month-on-month. In the year-on-year comparison, it decreased by 0.3%. “In April, construction output slightly decreased, year-on-year, and the y-o-y decrease was moderated by the civil engineering construction, which increased by 3.2%. Production in building construction decreased by 2.0%, year-on-year,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.

The approximate value of constructions for which a building permit was granted in April reached CZK 45.0 billion. “The approximate value of the constructions permitted in April decreased by 16.5% and the decrease took place in the segment of large constructions with the budget over one billion crowns. The approximate value of smaller constructions increased by 9.7%,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says.

Construction of 3 642 dwellings started in April and the number increased by 35.4% thanks to dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings; the number of dwellings started in family houses decreased, year-on-year. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 3 916 dwellings, which was a year-on-year decrease across categories by 8.1%.

According to Eurostat, construction output in the EU27 in March 2024 decreased by 0.7%, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for April 2024 on 19 June 2024.
