Construction output continued to decrease

The construction output decreased by 10.2%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in June. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 0.8% lower. The approximate value of permitted constructions decreased by 5.6%. The number of started dwellings increased by 9.3%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings increased by 10.5%, y-o-y.

“Construction output in June was by 0.8% lower, month-on-month, and in the year-on-year comparison, it decreased by 10.2%. This decrease took place in both the building construction and civil engineering construction with a similar rate,“ Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. The production in building construction decreased by 10.4%, y-o-y, and the civil engineering construction decreased by 10.0%, y-o-y.

The approximate value of constructions for which a building permit was granted in June reached CZK 41.2 billion and in the year-on-year comparison it decreased by 5.6%.

“Construction of 2 704 dwellings started in June and the number increased by 9.3% thanks to dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings. After more than two years, the number of dwellings started in family houses was also slightly increasing,” Drahomíra Dušková from the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO says. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 2 704, which was a year-on-year increase by 10.5% across all categories.

According to Eurostat, construction output in the EU27 in May 2024 decreased by 2.5%, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for June 2024 on 20 August 2024.

The year-on-year development of construction output (production) has been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month rates have also been seasonally adjusted.
