The construction output was by 0.8% higher, month-on-month, in February. “The construction output increased by 4.1%, year-on-year, in February; it was driven by the building construction. The civil engineering construction recorded a year-on-year decrease,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. The building construction output increased by 7.8% and the civil engineering output decreased by 5.5%, year-on-year.
In February, 4 676 building permits were granted and the number increased by 6.6%, year-on-year. The floor area of buildings – new constructions increased by 20.1%, y-o-y. “The February increase in the number of building permits granted was thanks to new construction of residential buildings in particular and also the growth of the floor area of new buildings by a fifth corresponds to that,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, explains.
In February 2026, construction of 3 923 dwellings started and the number increased by 45.9%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 3 222, which was a y-o-y increase by 20.8%. The number of both started and completed dwellings mainly increased owing to the category of multi-dwelling buildings.
According to Eurostat data, the construction output in the EU27 decreased by 2.0%, year-on-year, in January 2026. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for February 2026 on 20 April 2026.
Notes
The year-on-year development of construction output (production) is published after having been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month rates are provided for the trend cycle of construction output.
Detailed time series of construction output are newly presented primarily via the DataStat application. Current tables in the Public database continue to be updated and fully functional up until the end of operation of the Public database.
Based on changes in the legislation related to the Programme of statistical surveys, data on an approximate value of permitted constructions (for which a building permit is granted) are not available any more.
