Construction output continued to increase, year-on-year

The construction output increased by 8.2%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in January. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 1.2% lower. The approximate value of building permits granted decreased by 28.7%. The number of started dwellings decreased by 27.0%, y-o-y, the number of completed dwellings fell by 41.1%, y-o-y.

The construction output was by 1.2% lower, m-o-m, in January. “In January, construction continued to grow, year-on-year. The production was by 8.2% higher and the increase took place in both the building construction and the civil engineering construction,” Radek Matějka, Director of the Agricultural and Forestry, Industrial, Construction, and Energy Statistics Department of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says. Production in the building construction increased by 8.7% and the civil engineering construction increased by 6.9%, year-on-year.

The approximate value of constructions for which a building permit was granted in January reached CZK 28.7 billion and decreased by 28.7%, year-on-year. A considerable decrease in the approximate value in January was caused by granting of a low number of building permits.

In January 2025, construction of 2 553 dwellings started and the number decreased by 27.0%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings amounted to 1 260, which was a decrease by 41.1%, year-on-year.

According to Eurostat data, the construction output in the EU27 in December 2024 decreased by 0.8%, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for January 2025 on 20 March 2025.
